Without bezels where'd front facing speakers go?

Honestly I think the Galaxy S9 is almost perfect design at this point, much better than the notch shite we have otherwise. Untill we get embedded fingerprint sensors in the screen plus the screen sound thing, we've reached peak phone design. I pray for the bezels to shrink on the Pixel 3 compared to the 2. I love my P2 but it is not a good looking display.

bull3964 posted:Let this thread always remember that Samsung went to court to defend their right to not update their phones. Judging from the article that seems like pretty much an unwinnable case. No smartphone OEM supports their devices for as long as the lawsuit was requesting (except Apple because they have complete control of their platform). Imposing a blanket requirement to support phones for that long ignores the realities of Android today. It's possible Project Treble alleviates this to some extent but as it stands not even Google could guarantee that they'll be able to update all their phones for over 5 years. Unless sweeping regulations are introduced forcing every player involved in the making and support of phones to plan for a 5+ year minimum support window. FAUXTON posted:Maybe some weird setup where it's built into the frame edges but has some acoustic waveshaping wizardry going on to direct it forward and let it not sound like farts in a kazoo Google would give this big convoluted explanation at I/O and no one would give a poo poo. Apple would just give it a catchy name like Retina Sound (yes, I know it makes no sense) and everyone including your mother will be telling you how the speakers on any other phone just can't compare. Strongly disagree. I won't deny that Samsung makes amazing hardware, but I despise the curved screen. I frankly don't understand why anyone likes it or how it's lasted this long as a design. I figured the first couple versions were to flaunt their superior screens but would then fade away but.... Somehow that hasn't happened. I like my pixel 2 but its bezels are larger than I care for - If those renders of the 3 turn out to be accurate it'll be my perfect phone. Top/bottom bezels just big enough for speakers and holding, side bezels that are small enough to be out of the way without annoying leaking into the side of the phone.

S9 curved screen is total poo poo and is just asking to break the loving phone. It gives literally negative benefit to the phone.

It adds nothing and just makes screen protectors harder to make and install. I guess Samsung will shed no tears if more phones get broken (and then replaced) because of their lovely curved glass.

So my Windows Lumia 635 bit the dust and I've been looking into getting an Android phone. That said, I'm out of my depth on which phones are good and which to avoid. Wondering if any of you might help a goon out. Budget: $150 AT&T, T-Mobile, or GSM unlocked. (Work on Consumer Cellular basically.)

Now there's rumors of a mid-range Pixel with the SD710 launching in the first half of 2019. That could be interesting. A phone with a Pixel level camera, likely 1080p screen running Pixel software for the $500 price range for everyone who didn't need to be on the bleeding edge of performance.

I got my son a tablet when he was around 7 and a phone without service later, I use an applock app to block the browser and any other apps he doesn't need to use, disabled youtube. Basically he can play games on them or read ebooks and it requires me entering a pin to install any other apps or access the phone settings This one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.domobile.applock

Does anyone have a Pixel 1 or 2 and not have problems with mesh routers? I remember someone posting a while back that it was an issue that a Pixel could kill a WiFi network by connecting to it. I'm not getting that, but I am getting really annoying WiFi disconnects at a university, that IT seems to think is related to problems handing off between access points or something. Thing is, even if I'm sitting in one place, it keeps happening, like 1-3 times a minute will disconnect for 5 seconds, then reconnect. Just wondering if there's any magic to fix it.
