looking for some sinister sounding (blackened?) sludge recommendations similar to Fleshpress as i've replayed this track ten times over already https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2c1U8-HXgS8 skip to around the 4 minute mark if you're impatient for the riffs to start

Can't think of anything that sounds quite like Fleshpress but maybe you'll enjoy these. I was big into Fleshpress around The Art of Losing All/Wörm Dirges and these are the sort of bands I was listening to at the time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jH0xen8hGH0 Unearthly Trance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzby8GO_sBw Ocean https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpxlq18VHNY Atavist https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZQIQJn8GbE Monarch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNuncJ35cO8 Stumm And obviously stuff like Grief, Eyehategod and Noothgrush but I'm sure you already know them.

In case people missed it, Southern Lord have reissued WarHorse's "As Heaven Turns To Ash". If you don't already know, it's pretty much a mandatory listen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzOovR0S1uk

Any suggestions for albums that come close to being as angry and hateful as Dragged into Sunlight's Hatred for Mankind?

Dragged into Sunlight is pretty hard to get close to but If you haven't checked them out try Lord Mantis: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMgVGwG5Cqc or Coffin Worm: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjKDD8wv0AA

How and why the gently caress have i missed Naam for so long? Just stumbled on their self titled and . The production is super clean, but it still sounds absolutlely massive. Predicting that I will listen to this all week. Any other bands like them I should check out?

Oliver Reed posted:Any suggestions for albums that come close to being as angry and hateful as Dragged into Sunlight's Hatred for Mankind? Hatred for Mankind was a very interesting time for the main composer, he can't even recreate that sound for the new album which is what they are aiming for. It's impossible to make that sound without experiencing what influenced it in the first place. Primitive Man and Hooded Menace are the first two bands that come to mind though. Maybe Gnaw Their Tongues? Slowly We Rot?

In the last week I got to see Ruby the Hatchet, Elder, Goatsnake, and OM. Between now and May 1st we're getting visits from Yob & Witch Mountain, The Body & Full of Hell, and Sleep. Can anyone recommend me a decent set of ear plugs?

I've been using Etymotic ER20s for every show and gig for nearly 10 years. Haven't let me down yet.

After I lost my set and had to buy new ones, I took the advice of the store selling them that 'most people only need the small ones. its the weirdos that need the bigger ones'. The smaller ones were way more comfortable and just as good.

Yeah the ER20s are great, been using them over a decade I think. I've been to a ton of shows, just went to an audiologist last week and my hearing is still perfect. 100% credit those earplugs for that

When I joined my band the other guys were rehearsing without earplugs at the start, but I told them to cut that poo poo out and bought them both ER20s when I got a new pair for myself. So worth it.

I never wear earplugs for gigs or practise. I am slowly but surely losing my hearing but I'm too much of a lazy idiot to do anything about it. Plus I'm 100% sure I'd lose them the first time I use them.

# ? Mar 23, 2015 18:12 |

They come in a little box so you don't lose them! Also you can get ones that are connected by a string. Plus most metal shows sound better while wearing a decent set of earplugs.

Ayeee. I'm finally getting into the promotion game so I'll be having to attend so many gigs, I could do with not losing my ability to hear. Put on Dune on Friday and they absolutely smashed my eardrums in, my brain was shaking.

Little crumpled balls of toilet paper can work decently to at least minimize the ringing/damage if you don't have ear plugs.

Hulk Krogan posted:Plus most metal shows sound better while wearing a decent set of earplugs. Yeah I find that you can certainly pick out the individual instruments and melodies a lot more clearly with them in. I will sometimes take them out for a couple of minutes to experience that wall of sound effect though.

The first and last time I saw YOB I was a dumbass and stood in front of Mike's cabinet without protection. That poo poo rang my bell for days. I thought I'd be alright since I'd played loads of loud music for years. For about a week I thought things would never sound the same. Either I've gotten used to my post YOB hearing or it's gotten a little better. I'm going to see them again on Friday with my ear plugs this time. edit: not going to spoil other's jokes with my edits because that would be not cool. Enjoying this heavy stoner/psychedelic drone from Japan tonight: https://voron-nest.bandcamp.com/ The band who they're sharing the split with, Bomg, are OK too but kinda generic. Their track on the split is better than their album imo. https://bomg.bandcamp.com

I've never liked the "nice" ear plugs, much prefer the little foam ones. I tend to keep a bunch in my car and just grab four or so whenever I go to a show. I've been known to hand them out to people with me which has been met with a few looks of skepticism but they really do help. When I was a kid I was one of those idiots who didn't wear them ever. I'd spend two, three days with ringing ears. I can't remember when I figured it out but I wish it had been sooner.

Foam ones and bits of paper in your ear are really not a good idea. They're not designed for protection from concert acoustics at all and will also make things sound crappy to boot. Get a pair of drummers earplugs, I use Vaters or the ones other people have recommended. Don't gently caress with your hearing !

Seconding vaters. They're only like $15, come in a little case you can put in your keychain, and work great. I wear them for shows and band rehearsals and they're miles ahead of the foam ones.
