Jeb shouldn't have uttered a single Spanish word until the general. Does he really think Republicans will be impressed by him speaking Spanish?

Alter Ego posted:Americans, however, don't like to hear the bad parts of our history. If the great nations of this world were people, America would be a spoiled 5-year-old who bullies other nations and is protected by his mother who says his teachers "just don't understand him". We are, as a whole, a bunch of whiny, entitled, mean, stupid, scared assholes who are threatened by change and don't like to be told what we're doing wrong.

KillHour posted:What's this all about? Were dingoes just a cover up by the government? You know how america did really awful things to American Natives, including but not limited to ethnic cleansing of tribes, forced removal, lots o' rape, the Trail of Tears, Andrew Jackson going "lol, gently caress these native americans who tried to play by our countries' laws, and gently caress the supreme court, get these feather negros out of here", multiple native american boarding schools that happily practiced sterilization and lobotomy, and shuffling all our remaining natives onto barren lands where nothing grows and there are no public services? Imagine if we kept adding to that list, and also never felt bad about it. That's how Australia treats their aboriginals/Native Australians.

Youth Decay posted:Trump is pushing the anti-super PAC, anti-corporate rhetoric super hard in this speech right now. Obviously he's just as gently caress you got mine as any Republican but he's couching it in populism. I can really see how voters who would otherwise agree with a pro-worker platform but have been conditioned to hate unions and OMG SOCIALISM would be attracted to this guy. He's saying everything Bernie's been saying but in a bombastic smarmy rear end in a top hat fashion and it works. That's the thing with the American two-party system, there is no one really filling that corporatist (in the post-WWII European sense) gap the way the populist right does in Europe. The Republicans might spout anti-immigrant rhetoric from time to time, but in the end the business establishment that controls that party sees illegal immigration as a fine way to drive down wages and bust unions. And even to the genuinely socially conservative types, the free market is like a religion, not to be questioned. Someone who is consistently opposed both to savage capitalism and open borders, I can see getting a lot of traction. It's kind of bizarre for it to be so rare in the US when it's a common and logical combination in Europe, but again, it's because American 'conservatives' worship the free market.

It's kind of bizarre for it to be so rare in the US when it's a common and logical combination in Europe, but again, it's because American 'conservatives' worship the free market. In the US, our major parties are like permanent coalitions, where you've got internal caucuses and gangs taking the role of minor party blocs. Our "Tories" are for the moment all bibled up and ready to watch women die if they can't chain them to the kitchen and the birthing bed. If European politics/society had the attachment to Evangelical nutters that the US did, you'd probably see the Tories having to court their support for a majority. However, they aren't. As for illegal immigration, further marginalizing undocumented migrant workers means they can be abused even further lest they be turned in, driving wages lower still. Everyone on the stage knows the idea of a perfectly sealed border is Kimjongunia-level delusion, but the further you drive migrant populations into hiding, the more abusive their wage arrangements will be. That's the whole point.

He is the businessman candidate and he’s pretty compelling in part because Jeb has taken such a beating,” said [Kathryn Wylde, president and CEO of the New York City Partnership]. “I’ve set up a meet- and -greet with Governor Kasich and I’ve already got a sellout crowd.” Well that could be interesting.

KillHour posted:What's this all about? Were dingoes just a cover up by the government? Australia used to have a policy where they would literally kidnap Aborigine children and send them to be raised by white families. They claimed that Aborigines couldn't be trusted to raise children because they were abusive, drunk pederasts, but typically they ended up in foster homes and state institutions where they were abused anyways. This was done until the 1970s.
