Avoid performance mods and wild appearance mods. I would avoid tidy tails, most exhausts(unless jetted), air filter conversions, larger tire conversions, extended swing arms and "street fighter" "conversions". If they say "I did ____ so the mileage is wrong." forget about it. I also wouldn't pay more than $1,800 for a 3rd gen. In Maryland, I bought my inspected very clean never dropped 2008 ninja250 with 5500 miles for $2300. It was/is mostly stock with pretty good mods. Heated hand grips, a battery tender port, front and rear lowering links and aftermarket kickstand. He also included a bunch of chain lube, a rear tire stand and the stock links and kickstand. So I've been motorcycle-less for 4 years and I'm set on wanting to get another 80's Japanese bike, preferably something with a shaft and fairing for longer distance trips. Would this Maxim be a good bike? I've been doing some research and they seem like right up my alley but I want CA's opinion. I've already spoken with the owner and he says it does have a clean title. Help me goons! https://omaha.craigslist.org/mcy/5694608068.html

I sold it after one year because I was a broke college student who didn't have the income to fix all the little things it needed. Now that I've got a good full time job, I decided it was time to get back on 2 wheels.

Anyone have experience with the CB300F? A co-worker just picked up his endorsement a couple weeks ago and he's looking to pick up a used 300f, we're gonna go check it out tomorrow. http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/mcy/5704995767.html The dude put less than 500 miles on it for the year he owned it and is selling it for $3500, saying he'll "sell it back to the dealer" if he doesn't find the right buyer. It comes with some nice gear, though I doubt it's gonna fit my friend correctly. What do you guys think?
|
# ? Aug 5, 2016 05:53 |

Great first bike. If the used gear fits and your friend likes it, great, but don't let the seller use it as a price point. Don't buy or wear used helmets regardless.

I found it to be a piece of junk in comparison to a ninja 300. I did a bike bonding course with a friend getting back into riding hoping to ride a grom but got stuck on one of those instead. Horrible even for a beginner bike throttle response, uncomfortable ergo and kinda cheap feeling

It's not important for a starter bike like that but you can really tell it's actually a Third World Bike from the way it looks.

No neglect on the customer's side of things, all service has been dealer done. Honda has issued a recall for the cranks on CB300 and CBR300 for 2015 and 2016. http://www.hondaprokevin.com/2015-2016-honda-cbr-motorcycle-recall-stop-sale-300-sport-bike-news. Side by side, I would take a EX300 over a CB/R300 any day of the week. The fit and finish is a lot better, they dont seem to be as sacked as soon - I have seen some 10K CB/Rs that are pretty much clapped out. Cush drive sloppy, chain poor condition, lever pivots wearing, suspension leaking, valves needing to be shimmed (yes, at the service interval, but still). You get the idea. On the other hand, I have seen a bunch of higher mileage EX300s come in for their second and third valve service without needing adjustment. Other than typical wear items, they seem to wear better than their Honda counterpart. For the love of god, stay away from any
