Alt Acct, long time goon etc etc. I'm a Nuclear Materials Courier (Federal Agent) for Energy. Currently we are going through a massive hiring wave. As you all know Fed Jobs are lucrative and Federal Law Enforcement even more so. Currently there are two positions I'm aware of that are being filled (ABQ NM, and Amarillo TX). NNSA FA's is probably the farthest thing from your traditional law enforcement experience, however arguably the most para-military in the federal line up next to Agency PMOs. There is no grooming standards, uniforms, and the academy is roughly three months and its a gentlemen course, no getting smoke, no marching, formations etc. The job requires a Q (TS/SCI) HRP (w/ Psych Eval) and NO poly Below is a link to the recruiting site, and USAJOBS posting. If anyone has any questions about the job, hiring process, academy etc let me know! https://fmt.kcp.com/OSTfederalagent/ UPDATE There is an active posting: https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/505157400 This job use to be closed to VRA only, but looks like they are taking general public.

Yeah its rather silly, if they can't check all of the boxes no matter how irrelevant they are, they won't / can't hire you. So it feels more like a luck of the draw than anything. But you might be one of the 25%!

Communication from my union regarding a pending FAA open application bid for Air Traffic Control Specialist developmentals. Bid opens July 27, closes on the 31st, POSSIBLY SOONER.quote:The FAA is accepting applications nationwide beginning July 27 from people interested in becoming air traffic controllers. When the application link is available, NATCA will share it on social media & member communications. We have a thread! We have our own payscale and exist outside the GS! We still get federal locality! We still have a defined-benefit pension! A large portion of us work in the goon-ideal workspace! (Dark room, bathed in monitor glow.) More seriously, open hiring bids like this are an ENORMOUS opportunity for people that have had a hard time figuring out what they want to do with their lives. It requires no specific prior experience outside of either a degree (any degree,) work experience (any work experience,) or some combination thereof. I'll post the actual USAJOBS.gov link here when it becomes available.

Hay guyz It is weird looking out the window of a skyscraper at work after years working somewhere that the smell of cow manure occasionally drifted to from a nearby farm Though my favorite thing about this job is surely that my supervisor likes that I have a Ph.D. rather than talking down to me like I must be slow for having not worked more "real jobs." Ah, anti-education people.

If I have an offer for a higher salary than I’m currently making, can I use that to jump to a higher grade? Or are those kinds of negotiations frowned upon?

You can't negotiate higher grades if you already work there. Have to wait for your time-in-grade and for an open announcement if you are already at journey level Alternatively, if a higher grade job open to the public opens up you can apply as an external hire if you are qualified and use the offer to negotiate for that but it would technically be a different job.

6 Weeks after applying for a job and getting referred I hadn't heard anything, but I happen to be friends with the person who was leaving the job on Facebook so I messaged him to ask some specifics about the position and he says 'it's already been filled". No problem there, glad to know and move on. Now I wonder how long that position will say "Referred" in my profile. I'm guessing it will inform me the position has been filled by Q2 2019.

Anyone have recent insights in exempted service application tips/trends? There's an SEC position that looks up my alley (asset management-side enforcement) but I'd appreciate any tips before applying/writing out the USAJobs resume.

I recently got an email from OPM with an E-QIP code. Despite the email telling me I should also hear from my sponsoring agency about what to do, I've heard nothing from anyone. I did go ahead and create a new account and start filling out info as it's only got some of my previous information and nothing recent. I'm guessing this is a renewal for my Public Trust since I haven't even had any interviews lately let alone a job offer. But I'm just short of 7 years with the government total, and just past 3 with my current agency. That timeline doesn't seem to match up with renewal timelines but maybe they're really backed up and it was supposed to be done 2 years ago? This link says it should be 5 years for a PT renewal. No idea if I have MRPT or HRPT. Nothing new was done when I switched agencies. https://news.clearancejobs.com/2011/10/09/security-clearance-investigations-process-updated/

FWIW, my local office got my paperwork for my renewal on the 11th of April, and didn’t bother to give it to me until the day before the May 15th deadline. I never got an email about it. The system is hosed, OPM can jump off a loving cliff and die.

When I was hired on I was told that the background check "required" for my job would probably not even be started for at least a year and in all likelihood take 2 years to be completed. Instead of waiting for the investigation to be completed all that had to be done before I could start working was to get everything required for the background check submitted to OPM and for them to acknowledge it was received, nothing more. Supposedly if you do fail the check you can all of a sudden just get told you're fired 2 years into the job which is pretty crazy but I assume pretty rare for simple public trusts. Based off my experience I'd guess that yeah, you're probably now around 5 years after your check was done even if you have been with the Feds for 7 years

I had been working for three years by the time they did my public trust investigation...

That would have been nice. My initial hire I was told they were starting the background check in May and then I didn’t actually get to start until the following May. That year sucked.

Someone looking to get a non competitive appointment with a disability with major depression or anxiety: does your direct manager know about your disability? I know someone who should be using that but doesn't want their working relationship to be affected by that appointment

It's called hired contingent when they bring you on before your background is done. It's pretty common. That was probably on one of the forms you signed. Good news is you start early; bad news is you can be on a job for a year or two and get told to go home.

Discendo Vox posted:Dear thread, what should I know before taking the Defense Language Aptitude Battery? The DLAB is basically a combination of a hearing test and being able to follow consistent rules they give you. You'll deal entirely in a made-up language for the test, so just follow the rules they give you and don't read into it. If you have a firm grasp of logic and can understand/figure out what a stressed syllable is, you should be fine.

Hiring managers can't ask specific questions about your disability unless it relates directly to your ability to do the job. So in most cases a manager would never know specifics, though they'd be aware that you were selected under Schedule A.

Got a boatload of emails for various jobs today. Got referred to a position in OPM Retirement Services branch. (Any advice on this one?) OTOH, got another one from the Census that said: "This position is not being filled under this announcement but will be re-advertised. If you would like to be considered for this position, you must re-apply under the new vacancy announcement number" Well that hurts.

What have folks' impressions been of the lower level (I:e not in the headlines) appointees at your respective agencies under this administration? I'm new to government, so I don't have any context for understanding what's normal or not, but some of the appointees I've come across have been pretty appalling. We had someone put in charge of a high profile national initiative whose last job prior to "campaign staffer" was literally "dominoes pizza delivery guy"

USCIS got "administration stooge, but he worked here for more than a decade before that" so that has to be an A+ appointment for these literal idiots all things considered.

USACE is its own weird animal and while there's been proposals to try and break up some of its functions and move them into Interior and State, it'd take an act of Congress to fully implement and lol if that's gonna happen.
