Speaking of zero issues, I'd just like to mention that I've been playing TOTK mostly docked on a 4K OLED TV and it runs fine/looks gorgeous. I've become more of a 4K/60fps snob in recent years but there's people out there saying TOTK is ugly and I frankly think those people are insane.

I definitely use my materials to make stronger weapons to get better materials. I do want to see what items I'll need to upgrade armor eventually, but that won't be for some time yet. I'm just in full exploration mode. A part of me not buying the fire-resistant armor at the time was due to cash, but I also didn't want to get tied down in the area. So I made a mental note and moved on. I also want money to buy a house. So just saving things up. Once I've finished the grand tour I'll see where I'm at resource wise and just start dishing things out left and right.

I do wish they would include a "Load Game" button on the game over screen. I died probably 7 times on a miniboss and I had to quit to title screen every time because the Continue button would always just drop me back to an autosave right next to the boss with half my weapons used up

Yeah I notice when I go back to bad frame rates but if I like the game I get used to it quick. Skipping a game like Zelda cause it chugs sometimes is something I'm glad my dork brain doesn't put me through. Plus this level of art on a handheld sized console with like 7 year old hardware is amazing.

So... for those of you who've completed the game, or well advanced with Main Quest stuff in TotK, I need a small hint because something needs doing and I'm feeling like an idiot. I ended up in the Wind Temple by "accident". Well, I managed to get to the island chain that leads to it and while it gave me massive "plot" feelings, who can say no to a rising swirl of sky-boats? So I ended up in the wind temple, but 1) I can't get out (without teleporting which I'm being hard-headed about avoiding so I'd rather just beat it. So 2) I've gone about the temple. It's neat, and I've found four fan devices with big old vertical slabs behind them. But here's the problem, I can't do anything with them! I don't know if by skipping all the plot prompts I'm being prevented from doing things, which seems wrong (unless I'm supposed to have someone with me here), or am I just missing something? I can't use Ultra-hand on them and I've tried a handful of Zonai devices, which seems wrong because the game would've probably supplied you with them. So yeah I'm just stuck and I don't know how to get off without teleporting out. Am I missing something super obvious or did I just sort of prevent myself from solving it due to my gung-ho breaking and entering? I will teleport out in case of last resort and continue exploring if the game won't let me advance. Thanks!

Exact same thing happened to me yesterday, and it was the first time I felt like something even kinda wasn't accounted for - (spoilersfor part of the TotK main story quest under discussion) I went back and got the kid, he told me to take him up tot he sky, so I teleported up right near the wind temple and he was like "whoa, this isn't where we supposed to go, we were supposed to be above the mountains" and then he left and I had to find him. Turns out he was near the beginning, but not the VERY beginning, of the mountain/sky ruins puzzles, and I needed to see that cutscene, team up again, and THEN teleport up there.

just had a weird and annoying but ultimately not hugely impactful bug doing the north necluda sky shrine quest with the crystal, made a fan plane and went sailing over. I hosed up and went over the edge so I immediately loaded an autosave from before I made the airplane and went to make it again and when I tried to pull out my zonai devices they just... didn't appear on the ground? They were gone from my inventory but nowhere to be seen.I tried a few times from different positions and it kept happening so I went to load another save from before and it still happened. I just had to quit out and go back into the original autosave and it worked fine but just in case anyone else has this happen to them I thought it was worth mentioning

got offered a switch recently like a three year old child on their birthday. Havent played a Zelda game since Twilight, which i did not finish. Is tears good? Yes, the vouchers can be used on any two games in the list, including tears of the kingdom. The only catch is that the vouchers expire within a year from purchase but as long as you don't hoard them and then forget to use them there won't be an issue.

For better or worse (most people would say better, but it really doesn't click for some people) BOTW and TOTK are very little like traditional Zeldas. Both are massive open world games with a focus on freeform and mostly unguided exploration, and if you only get one, it should probably be TOTK. Technically it's a direct sequel to BOTW but since everyone in Hyrule seems to have amnesia (because they keep explaining things Link should already know) you won't miss out on much plot other than "Link had an unspecified adventure with several characters a few years ago". Caveats: TOTK is harder, but also--by design--gives you way more tools to cheese and abuse the game. Both games de-emphasize traditional Zelda dungeons; the first has a single aesthetic for all the dungeons that just reuse the same gimmick, and the second is a slightly more exploration-based dungeon that doesn't have the sort of puzzles you may have come to expect. Both games are densely packed with things to do, but over time (the amount of time varies per person; for me it was dozens of hours, so you'll still get plenty of play in) it does start to get repetitive as the variety starts to dwindle. One nice thing about both is that people have lauded how it's a great game for backseat players, even players who don't game; back when BOTW came out there were a lot of stories where someone would say "my non-gamer [SO/mom/etc] watched me and asked if I couldn't just do x, and to my surprise, I could, and it worked".

Nintendo's non-mobile games generally give you decent to good value for their DLC. Smash Bros has tons of characters and if you're into that the paid ones are probably worth it. But better for me is Mario Kart, which is excellent on its own, and has a single purchase DLC consisting of 48 tracks (32 currently out, the last 16 to come out later this year), not as visually polished but all still very fun to play. Mario Odyssey is like Mario 64 refined, and is extremely good.

Kudos on whoever commented on the back-seating potential of this game lol Also i think I’ll go for Mario Kart. It’s not the end of the world since i know ill eventually get the others i want like Link’s awakening or smash or that Mario one, just we’ll pace ourselves and start with those ones first. Just one more question then: is mario kart playable with just one half of the controller? As in: does the controller divide in two for local play or do you need a set of the two handles per controller? The division of the thing confuses my pea brain E: and yeah TotK is gorgeous as F, whoever’s complaining it’s ugly needs to have their eyes checked.

I’m going to throw out some preemptive advice for it that isn’t immediately obvious. The game by default has stuff like auto steering and other gameplay assist enabled. Your first port of call should be to pause the game and enable/disable whatever you do or don’t want.
