If you enjoyed your work I'm happy for you, but you're one of the only sex workers I've talked to also out of the industry who was pro sex work. Almost every other women on the job I ever met was substantially hurt, including me. Sexual violence and drug abuse are rampant. It hurt every woman I ever knew who got into it.

Again, if you had a different experience, I'm glad. But it's not what I've ever seen.

I was incredibly lucky, both in non-prostitution sex work and as an escort. Bad poo poo went down for me, but very minor in the grand scheme. Things I had dealt with before, just being a woman. The things that hosed with me the most were the deaths of others. Yes, that's incredibly lucky, if anyone else reads this besides Tiny Deer and is wondering.

I dislike the idea of giving up on legalization, because so many are pushing for it, and because the business will continue on regardless. But I also know how bad poo poo would get if it were legalized tomorrow (here in the US), even with specific laws to cut down on trafficking, prosecute pimps, protect sex workers from and clients, & police if called to assist said sex workers etc. Bad, with no guarantee it would get better. Laws aren't always enforced. It's easy to say "oh make X and Y illegal and heavily punishable," much harder to achieve the shift in societal attitudes necessary for those laws to mean poo poo.

I guess it comes down to having hope that the species will improve, eventually. I still have that hope, for some dumb rear end in a top hat reason. Not really sure why.
