I had to stop making murderbots because they were too good at killing enemies. I couldn't get any XP after a while!

Bots make perfect linebackers for sniper builds with CYBER crafting installed. I just gave Ada a minigun and scatter laser, then spec'd by exo suit for maximum jump height. Find a vantage point, hop to it, pick off the tough ones while the mobs rush Ada with sublime futility, then hope the fall doesn't kill you on the way down.

When it comes to companion weapons. Is it still 1 unit of ammo for regular weapons to give them unlimited ammo?

Speedball posted:Once you join the Minutemen and are their official leader, any settlement that's allied to you officially counts as a Minuteman settlement. But even before then, if you ignore Preston you can still run around getting settlements on your side. And then when you're the General you're in charge of all those areas too. As long as you're still allied to them and can build stuff there, it's all good. If it counts as a minuteman settlement, then why do I still have to take 3 other settlements under Preston quests before I am allowed to do the taking the castle quest, and 3 more after that before I have the 8 needed to be able to go for the minuteman ending? You need 4 minuteman settlements before Preston gives you Taking Independence, and 8 before you get Defending the Castle and then the minuteman ending. Settlements I take on my own don't count towards this number, so how are they minuteman settlements?

Zephyrine posted:When it comes to companion weapons. Is it still 1 unit of ammo for regular weapons to give them unlimited ammo? I believe that if they're not currently companions, you can still get away with this, at least for ballistic weapons. In other words, give Nick Valentine a minigun and 1 round of ammo, send him to the Castle, and then when you do the Defending the Castle quest, he will plow through the synths with the minigun. As long as he's not your companion at the moment. It doesn't work for the fat man or missile launcher, sadly.

Settlers: you can give one ballistics-type ammo or energy-type ammo for unlimited ammo. It's when you get to missiles, nukes and so forth where it's no longer unlimited. I haven't tested specialty types (like railway spikes, rail guns, cannonballs, junk jet) however. Companions do not benefit at all from any unlimited ammo situation. Which is why I always park a super sledge on them (which admittedly I never see them use because they pack-mule every weapon I come across).

IIRC, companions have unlimited ammo *for their specific original weapon only*. I seem to remember that even an ungraded version of "<companion>'s lovely pipe SMG" wouldn't benefit, but it's been for-loving-ever since I was reading that, so I may be wrong on that part. All my companions are now at the Castle (except X-whatever the dead Courser since I betrayed the Institute first), wearing tuxedoes/bowlers/mirrorshades (except Strong/Nick/Codsworth) and packing maxed-out Laser Gatlings (except Strong and Codsworth) with plenty of ammo. Plus my heavy laser/rocket turret farm. Plus about eight Doombots, all but two with Laser Gatlings and Rocket Launchers (one has dual Gatlings, one is a radioactive melee special). Oh, and I guess there's some Minutemen there too. Just need to finish upgrading Codsworth (and lose his bowler ) and shoot down the Priapus, and then it's Laserfest!

I always pimp out one of the random legendary pipe guns you get early on and just keep feeding that companion all the .38 rounds the game throws at you. I'm pretty sure a fully modded pipe rifle or pistol is still gonna be better than any companion's default weapon, and with a scope they may even hit enemies more than once every ten minutes!

Except for your buddies wanting to hose away while you're in melee with enemies, I'd say an Explosive-tagged gun would be a good thing, as their misses would probably do enough splash damage to murder smaller enemies like radroaches and molerats. When I went to rearm/rehome my companions, I found out that Nick was still carrying my Two-Shot .44 that I'd been looking for... I'd wanted to equip Strong with the anti-mutant .44 when he was active, but Super Mutants are limited to certain weapons. Dammit. No "STRONG LIKE FUNNY GUN SHOOT GREEN FIRE, GREEN LIKE SUPER MUTANT!" or other fun loadouts. Hmm, maybe I should go out to the Island again, send Longfellow to meet the rest of the crew...

I narrowed the issues I'm facing with my game down to VATS. After a certain point, in certain places, toggling VATS causes the game to freeze, requiring a hard reset of my system. It happens most often with feral ghoul roamers but has happened with rust devils as well. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there a hotfix that anyone knows of?

I took and spray & pray and modded it for a slower rate of fire and higher accuracy and Curie is a murder machine with it. But a balanced murder machine. Quick to maim and incapacitate but not so quick that I don't have time to tag the enemy for the xp. She's also very conservative with the ammo. Firing in short bursts.

Curie is surprisingly bad at hand to hand combat. I watched this fight in slow motion for something like 10 minutes as she tried to rifle butt him and he responded by giving her a whack with the baseball bat that knocked her to the ground. Eventually she kicked his legs out from under him and finished it from there.

Donald Kimball posted:What is the fastest way to power level and get my hands on some X-01? - Use console commands if you're very impatient and on the pc. - Have a lowish Int and the Idiot Savant perk. Then savescum at every quest turn in until the perk procs. - Play until the Brotherhood of Steel arrives, then get a quest to escort a scribe from Quinlan. Snipe the scribe from the BoS base, tell Quinlan that the scribe is dead and get rewarded. Then do the quest again as many times as you want. Once you hit lvl 28 go to 38 Court just west of Custom House Tower and get a full suit of X-01.

I just ran through the sat array and the mechanist lair on a lvl 15 and those two aren't so bad. I killed Ahab with two bottlecap mines and Ada gunned down the assaultron with the two autolasers I installed. I used the missile launcher from Ahab's room to take down Ivey. Would've been a lot harder if I haven't used a T45 suit. One of the two robobrains and its posse before the sat array were much harder though. Had to lure them into two super mutant suiciders. If you're over level 28 it will always be a full X-01 suit, with no missing parts. Very handy. It's behind an expert lock, though, so just be prepared or equip your robot with a lock picking module.
