Apparently there was some cut content where if you did this, he'd eventually ambush you later on in a bid for revenge, calling you stupid for trusting him. I guess the devs figured it it was just a little too niche to be worth coding for, especially since it had no real impact on anything. As for companions having utterly poo poo aim, that's why I tend to give them melee weapons. Cait with a Power Fist still isn't too terribly strong, but the nature of melee weapons means that she doesn't miss nearly as often and can at least tank damage meaningfully for me by always rushing up to the front as soon as the battle starts.

There's also less chance of her shooting you in the back! I gave Preston a high powered sniper rifle exactly once. Not a good idea in survival. Yes I know there's a perk for that. I think forcing a player to spend a perk to ameliorate the effects of your poo poo AI is... in the most generous terms, a troubling design decision.

Certain mods that include settlement menus (I can't think of any off the top of my head since I uninstalled FO4 a few weeks back) need to be "uninstalled" in-game by using an uninstaller script BEFORE you remove the modfile, or else even after being removed it'll still have the script running that creates the settlement menu stuff. Quite a few of them included an uninstaller item that was crafted in the chemistry bench. You'd need to go back to the Nexus pages of the mods you had installed and search for the READ ME BEFORE UNINSTALLING paragraph and see what instructions they gave were. For instance, using Snap'n Build, from http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/7393/ quote:Uninstallation: Other mods have different methods, some of which require you to be inside a non-buildable location before using it, like the Sanctuary bomb shelter, or else it'll uninstall incorrectly.

OK, so I'm trying to build Vault 88, but how the hell do I lock sections of different rooms together? I can buld all sorts of atrium stuff off the initial nub next to where you meet the overseer easily, but anything else doesn't want to lock onto those parts (caffeteria, overseer's office, etc) so everything ends up looking janky.

You should be able to snap the doors of the specialized rooms onto the doors of the atrium. From there, blue snaps to blue and red to red, and there is a red to blue hallway.

Wow. Robbaz went NUTS with the Vault-Tec DLC. First, he uses a minor mod to build rocks around Starlight so he can have his own underground above-ground Vault, then in THIS video, he uses modded versions of Contraptions factory machines to create a Soylent Green factory that turns dead people into soap, food, and medicine, and conveyor belts that put the food, soap and medicine into the medical bay, cafeteria and showers. That's both very hosed up and very impressive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSirXp96mps I also like how he's put the bowling ball modification on the Big Boy so he gets two bowling ball shots for every one he fires. A gun that makes more bullets for you to use every time you fire it!

Ugh, I'm about level 19 in survival and am entering the bullet sponge portion of the program. Am I missing out on something by not using energy weapons, or am I supposed to just tough it out while I take boring +20% damage perks as I level?
|
# ? Jul 30, 2016 00:51 |

You will definitely need to invest in +20% perks in something. The game's roughly balanced with the assumption that you're keeping up with both damage buffs and weapon mods. If you want to stick with ballistic weapons I would advise clearing out the railyard northwest of Jamaica Plain, there's a railway rifle there that does pretty gnarly damage til some legendary enemy shits out a gauss rifle in the 50-70 level range. Alternatively, you can install the Minutemen overhaul and patrols will start carrying gauss somewhere in the 40s. I lucked out when a patrol got the poo poo end of an encounter with a mutant suicider and I've been rolling 2mm ever since.

I installed Modern Weapons and have never looked back. No one is a bullet sponge with that mod.

As long as you're keeping up with the +20% talents and not doing something dumb like using automatics it doesn't really matter if you're using ballistic or energy weapons. I used a 308 rifle until I could put a 50 cal chamber in it and used that til I quit in the high 90s and was oneshotting everything from stealth The game really really rewards (and seems to expect) alpha damage, not dps. I mean sure, the gauss rifle is better (and just buy the last minute from the minutemen), but it's overkill

Yes. Auto applies to all auto weapons, rifleman applies to all semi-auto or manual guns with stocks, pistols to all semi-auto or manual guns with pistol grips. Rifleman is the most powerful, obviously.

Today, I found Ladies Auxiliary Tape 08. In general I play without fast travel. So going to some place on the other side of Boston is always at least a little bit of an adventure. Today I was passing by the Old North Church for about the dozenth time, when my route took me past a green door I hadn't seen before. So I got closer to take a look and it said "boxing gym". Okay, let's see what we got. And it was a boxing gym. With barbells all over the place, and Buffout sprinkled liberally as well. There was a locked safe with some random loot, and a funny skeleton diorama. I think some dude packed his glove with explosives or something, and blew his opponent through the ropes but got flung back himself? Or maybe he was just too swole for mortal man to encompass. But that's not where I found Ladies Auxiliary Tape 08. That was just something I'd never noticed before and it put me in the mood. When I got out of the boxing gym, I noticed a scaffolding stairway up. The gym itself was only one floor, so I figured, oh, this is how I see the ruins of the second floor or whatever. Let's see what's up there. And up I went, into the ruined second floor of the boxing gym and climbing higher until I was on the rooftops. There were planks all over the place leading to other rooftops. Huh, I thought. Okay, so there's another stash up here somewhere, right? An overlook with some ammo boxes or something? At this point I feel like I should mention I also run with the mod Darkest Nights. It tends to make points of interest in the larger wasteland a lot more obvious since they're the ones with the lights on. So there I am, able to see maybe six feet in front of my face, stumbling around a seemingly endless maze of darkened rooftops, and I'm casting about for the payoff, but there's nothing. Planks lead to other roofs lead to the occasional constructed stairway lead to even more roofs. Disoriented, I come across an actual fairly expansive bridge spanning a gap, curving around the upper story of an apartment building. This seems important so I seize on the lead, and as I round the corner I spy the first thing I've seen here other than more roofs: a patio table, and two chairs, set out overlooking something I can't quite see because it's still nighttime. But that's not where I found Ladies Auxiliary Tape 08. That just whetted my appetite for the white door on the other end of the patio from the plank bridge, only labeled "apartment". Inside was... well, the aftermath of an episode of Hoarders. Passages choked by junk, fungus growing in miscellaneous piles, and empty bottles and cat bowls all over the place. Stacks of Boston Bugles, collections of old toys. Most of the household appliances are the name-brand versions - Luxobrew coffee pots, Wakemaster alarm clocks. I figure this was a scavenging base of sorts after the bombs fell, maybe. The apartment is small, but given the stacks of junk it's entirely possible that around any given corner I'll find a body. Or an active terminal. Or... well, or something to explain why. In the last corner I look in, tucked next to a TV with a bottle of wine, is Ladies Auxiliary Tape 08. So I pop it into the Pip-Boy for a listen. And it's... prewar, is my best guess. A serious but nebbish-sounding lady, introducing the tape as "surveillance tape number eight" but mostly just sharing local gossip with her mother-in-law before the mother-in-law proposes going off to drink at "Paul Revere's house". At this point I am just full of questions and also junk, but no answers. Is this maybe just a variant of the old "release three pigs numbered 1, 2, and 4" trick? Were there actually a breadcrumb trail of tapes 01 through 07 leading up to this place? If I find Paul Revere's house, wherever in Boston that is, is it going to be stocked with junk or at least Ladies Auxiliary Tape 09? (If you know, please answer in spoilers. I'm going to at least try and have a look at this next time I play the game.) Maybe more importantly, who came up with this little sequence of events? The interconnected rooftops was a not-inconsiderable feat of geometry, with at least one more possible "on-ramp", a more different stairway leading down off the rooftop warren, but I didn't go down to have a look because I was focused on trying to find something, anything up top. Now it feels like... somehow, I've stepped into an ARG that is also inside of a video game? Tonight I found Ladies Auxiliary Tape 08, and even if this little island is all Ladies Auxiliary Tape 08 ever was, Fallout 4 suddenly feels huge. (Also, I'd like to apologize to perhaps a different level designer and dialogue writer. Before I signed off for the night I was up north at Lake Quannapowitt, and since I've got Aquagirl I figured I'd look at the bottom on my way through. As I spot the first of a hundred or so orange barrels, Deacon pipes up, warning me to steer clear of Lake Q because it's got the hard rads. Why is he saying that, I wonder. A location bark for this area in specific? I mean, I know location-specific barks exist for various characters, but why him, here? On the other side of Lake Q is an open delivery truck, and I go to have a look inside of it when I see something on the shipping crate blocking most of the back hatchway. Railsign. It's a cache. Oh, so that's why him, here. The reason I'd like to apologize is that this was also a neat little moment but Ladies Auxiliary Tape 08 kind of recalibrated my revelation meter for the night.)
