Donna Brazile seems to be taking the Dick Morris route to Clinton-hating fame. It's kinda pathetic.

Now look, you can't prove that. No one can. It's just as likely that he excited enough downballot people into running :downs:

I think Northam was a mediocre candidate who ran a pretty bad campaign but had enough decent positions to be able to reap the rewards of running against a historical unpopular president.

No, he didn't:

Dems won house elections 53 to 44, while Northam won by 54 to 45, a similar margin. But there were about 11 house races without a democrat on the ballot.

There's were like 30 races without a Republican. But in competitive races Northam outperformed most Delegate races. Some by quite a bit (Danica)

So I procured the Donna Brazile audiobook and I am 3 hours in and you have got to listen to it. She says gently caress and drat the correct number of times and her quips are like when James Carville makes sense.

She hates Robby Mook and this fucker Brandon, who is the campaign's liaison to the DNC who acts like he loving runs the place (her words) and the way she goes after both of them with intensity and cursing and laser guided jibes is intense.

Here is an excerpt from about 2:45 minutes into the book that I am transcribing as accurately as possible:

This anecdote continues for quite a while, the short and short is, the campaign kept stubbornly using the duck and DoBRaz gets more and more pissed. Culminating in the revelation that HILLARY WANTED TO USE THE DUCK. NO ONE WOULD STAND UP TO CLINTON. DoBraz finally got through the bubble and connects the fact that the campaign has big connections to Disney money and she says "I know you all want that money so get rid of that loving duck." [that's a literal quote] it was killed in moments.

"And the next morning I was able to enjoy my breakfast with the NBA. I enjoyed it very much, in fact."

"I didn't sense much fun or loving in Brooklyn" DoBraz describing the atmosphere of Brooklyn HQ

wait, is this story supposed to make Donna Brazile look good? the duck is dumb, but not "go on a long profanity-filled rant about how they need to get rid of it" dumb. she's way madder about a guy in a duck suit than she was about the rigging of the goddamn primaries. of course, shes not mad because it's dumb, she's mad because it pisses off her corporate overlords. in the end, she only manages to get rid of the duck by claiming that they'll piss off a big corporate donor and lose out on some of that sweet sweet campaign cash. truly, an unsung progressive hero

i dont think it makes her look good, i do think it's funny as all gently caress how mad she gets about that drat duck + the reveal that it was basically hillary's pet tactic that folks were too scared to talk to her about

I also thought the part where she didn't want to deal with the duck because she was trying to enjoy being waited on by several handsome professional athletes whose boss wanted to curry favor with her was maybe in poor taste but no one else said anything about that so

loquacius
Oct 21, 2008

For comparison, imagine if Howie Dean mentioned in a book that he didn't want to deal with such-and-such issue from the Obama camp because some Hollywood producer was having some aspiring starlets cook him brunch

that's skeevy as hell, right? This is basically the same thing

i'm not surprised no one told her "no" on the duck. it's not worth really fighting over. if you give the candidate low-cost things they want, it's easier to say "no" when it's something actually consequential

It doesn't make Donna look good, but it also makes Hillary's desire for the duck seem really loving dumb. And the whole "ABC/Disney donates to us and there's a copyright issue" part is the cherry on top. They only stopped because the donors threatened them.
