I always get so confused about Dixie Dave's relationship with Bongzilla. From my understanding they have a new bassist?

Metal-Archives still has Dixie listed as their current bass player but they could be using a different guy live if he's too busy with Weedeater.

Gotta throw out a recommendation for Ksyatriya's new album, as these guys can use all the exposure they can get.

Instrumental cosmic doom, done by a pair of brothers who are very nice guys. Check it out if that's your thing.

Is there anything out there like Loss' Despond? I don't stray much into funeral doom but I'd love to find something with the same feel.

Temples Festival report: I had a great time - loads of good bands, excellent value, it seemed well organised with almost all shows running to schedule and the queues were not too bad, although they ran out of beer on tap on day 2! :ohdear: But I'd gladly buy tickets for next year now with no knowledge of the lineup.

Surprise hit for me were Slabdragger who were much better than I was expecting and had a decent groove (https://slabdragger.bandcamp.com/album/regress). Loved Weedeater and Bongzilla too, really fun. Goatsnake were great live and their new material sounds good. Earth played a couple of old tracks - High Command and Ouroboros is Broken, which was cool. Pig Destroyer's grind set was disappointing and pretty dull but they also played the entirety of Natasha as a second set and that was worth watching. Torche were thunderous but suffered from having their set early in the day, and Pallbearer I wasn't impressed with at all.

There is still no other experience like watching Sunn O))) live and I think that was the loudest I've seen them, breath taking in a completely literal sense. Apparently they played a Burning Witch cover (Jubilex) but I wouldn't have known had I not been told. I really liked Attila on vocals, sinister and evocative but still with expression - last time I saw them they had Malefic and I wasn't that impressed with him.

Dinosaur Gum

I have some pretty brutal post-Sunn blues. Their show is so incredible and the sound, volume, bass, atmosphere etc was perfect. I don't know who could possibly live up to such a performance. I've seen them twice now and felt the same both times. I sure as hell hope that sonic experience will be topped someday, otherwise I just hope they'll come around again in the next couple of years.

Anyway sorry for the whiny hyperbole. I was very front & centre for Bongzilla who were so great. I kinda remembered them as a mostly "hurr we smoke weed hurrr" generic stoner band but gently caress some of their riffs are SO goddamn satisfying.

I missed Slabdragger sadly, but only to catch Will Haven as I've seen SD twice already. They were loving great too. Alsp props to Celeste for another amazing performance, and for giving Sunn a run for their money in the "let's use all the fog machines in the known universe" category.

Yeah I heard good things about Celeste and I like them on record so I was sad to miss them, unfortunately we didn't make it down quite early enough on the Saturday. We were probably more or less brushing shoulders at Bongzilla, I was right in the centre front too. Totally agree about Sunn, I've really never been to any other performances quite like theirs and I want another one just as soon as I've recovered. They're playing at the Royal Festival Hall in London in August and I'm pretty tempted but I don't think I can afford it right now.

YOB's albums are all good for different reasons, but I like the ones with Isamu on bass the best.

It's hard to pick favorites, but in addition to the ones you mentioned, I think these are some of the best YOB tracks:

As bands go Bongripper sells some pretty kick rear end shirts on their site, but they go fast.

http://bongripper.bigcartel.com/

I haven't received mine yet, but I hope this Gildan Softstyle shirt is of decent quality. Speaking of which I am sick of doom (heck most metal in general) using cheap heavyweight shirts. I don't like the way most of the them fit (I am 6ft 180-185lbs normally, so I'm not too skinny or fat), and they are never the same once you wash them. I passed on several shirts because of this.

Oh my god same. I rarely wear some of my coolest-looking tees just because they feel so lovely. I'm a skinny guy of average height and I usually buy small shirts, but those crummy heavyweight shirts are always way too constricting, and the mediums make me look like I just emerged from my basement cave after a long session of writing a D&D campaign. Let me know how the Gildan feels, because I'd love to get one of those Endless Descent Into Ruin shirts.

Gildan shirts SUCK. My favorite shirt is from Uncle Acid, but I don't know what brand they used to print on. It's so soft and fits snug and is real comfy. I'm 6'4" 235 so I need an XXL shirt, but the ones from Gildan just are too big and the XL doesn't have enough length so I'm either swimming in the shirt or my midriff is exposed.

The Gildan heavyweight shirt do suck bad, and they are sadly used by a lot of bands. That said there are different types of Gildan shirts, and some are pretty decent. They even have some shirts that are like American Apparel shirts (which are usually the best). I think the Gildan softstyle shirts are the ones that fit like AA shits.
