Terror Sweat posted:where did the term economic anxiety come from? i keep seeing a bunch of people using it sarcastically Adding to everyone else's response: its origin came as a coping mechanism when the narrative of "clinton lost because of racism" started giving way to "clinton lost because she didnt appeal to midwest issues". Basically by joking about it whenever racist statements came up, one could soothe the loss of midwest stronghold states by denying the emerging narrative with anecdotal statements. It started being used in earnest when it was revealed obama voters (who voted for a black man) didn't turn out to vote.

Tulsi Gabbard is an anti-Muslim Hindu extremist who supports every foreign dictator she can as long as they have a policy of "kill the musselmen" (Assad, Modi) She dresses up her lovely genocidal beliefs in "we need to stop funding ISIS!!" and other incredibly ignorant but catchy phrases because idiots eat that poo poo up.

Hillary's camp encouraged news orgs to cover Trump seriously because they thought it would force the eventual nominee to take more extreme positions that would be easier to attack in the general. Instead we got President Trump. So if Bill hadn't encouraged Trump to run, and Hillary hadn't encouraged the media to treat him like a real candidate she might have won, yes.

Instead we got President Trump. that's not really accurate. the dnc (distinct from hfa) wanted the media to cover candidates like ben carson, trump, etc as the face of the republican party. that's what they meant by "pied piper" strategy - it was meant to tarnish the gop brand in general, and it was a good idea (and not a new one, either). it's probably no surprise the dems would rather face trump than jeb in the general election, but at the end of the day trump won because the gop consultant class collectively underestimated him, because the field was too crowded, and because that's what republican voters wanted.
