I like the proportions of a regular-cab, short bed pickup truck but those don't work for consumers because of parking or cost constraints. The truck is the do-everything vehicle for Middle America in the same way that a station wagon is the do-everything vehicle for car enthusiasts.

The motorized selector knob rising out of the console that JLR uses is too simple and robust and not pointless enough. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dz7jdplVn7w

As much as I hate them, at that point just add another stalk with gear selecting buttons like mercedes does or take a page out of sports cars mode selector and put a dial on the steering wheel!

I imagine the gear shift lever on the lower trim levels with the front bench seat (the clear correct option) is still on the column. Pretty funny that they didn't just repurpose that for the higher trims with the table poo poo. My 2014 is a column shifter

Yeah they should have done the push button transmission like Lincolns have or the rotary gear selector on the dash like Rams have.

Accidentally deploying the gear shift just punches him in the dick. (bench seats are in fact the best)

It’s pretty simple IMO. Column shifters have traditionally been a truck thing. Your average suburban cowboy wants to appear rugged and masculine, but also knows he’s better than those dirty hillbillies. Therefore, appearances demand he drives a truck so everyone can see him in a truck. At the same time, he knows he deserves the most coddling interior for his flabby rear end, nothing so pedestrian as bench seats and plastic interiors. After all, he traded in a BMW for this rig. So the column shifter, among other interior pieces, is kicked to the curb because those things are for the trucks that Jose the illegal immigrant drives when he comes to mow the lawn. I am an actual dirty hillbilly, so my truck is a single cab long bed with vinyl seats and power nothing.

ThinkFear posted:I love the 8" screen and crank windows. I love the cynical marketing on display. Wind up windows are these days more complex, more expensive and don't last as long as electric so it costs a manufacturer MORE to offer them but they go onto the low end models where the profit margins are at their lowest. Ford could probably save a couple of bucks per door by just not having them but yet that's what fleet buyers want to confiure as they have this perception windups make the package as cheap as possible for them And yet you get the cheapest version with electric windows it's a coupla hundred dollar extra so Ford gets to make free money and a bit more. (Not any real different for some other options of course. Still makes me laugh as really, there just isnt any good reason why wind ups are still a thing)

I hope they keep making them in the new generation, they'll probably keep making them as long as fleet operators want them as a dirt cheap configuration. One of these days I want to get a single cab with a 5.0 and supercharge it. Magnuson makes a supercharger for the old (ancient) tundra 5.7, if I can find a single cab that would be great too.

Yeah, I see tons of single cab, LWB trucks around, but they're all pretty much base model fleet trucks. Either that or they're made to have a service body dropped on the back.

Midsized sedans still sell, but the market is shrinking and there’s a lot of good options out there. Is that car good enough to grab any market share? Also hate to be the guy that beats the dead horse, but at least in my area the dealer experience leaves a lot to be desired. The Kia dealer near me still runs like a BHPH lot. They are putting out some really good products though. There’s a new telluride in my neighborhood and I give it a long glance every time I see it. skipdogg fucked around with this message at 05:41 on Jul 1, 2020 |

I also saw a decent number of turbo Optimas around until the 2.0T Stinger showed up. All the people who re-badged their US Optimas as K5s are fist-pumping. It's also interesting to see Kia turn down the 2.5 N/A and just go with the 1.6T as the base engine. The Sonata having the 1.6T as an upgrade engine which makes less power than the 2.5 N/A is confusing.
