I used to work at doggy day care. Once a mastiff (I think) and a ridgeback had a disagreement. The mastiff clamped around the ridgeback's neck and pinned it down. It took four of us to break them up. They weren't even fighting because that would have been bad.

When I moved in and did the "Oh, what's over that fence..?" thing Sparkle nearly jumped to full fence height and nearly bit my face off. It took me six month's to realise that she actually lived there and hadn't been just a guest. Was the perfect neighbour dog. Quiet... no fuss. I found she lived there when her owner got a job and Sparkle would get lonely and howl a little. Once I knew the name, I'd go out the back when she howled, call her, poke my head over the fence and chat just to let her know it was OK and her owner would be coming back. After a while we got a possum nest down in the front unit's garden. The possums would come up along the fence and just sit there punk-taunting Hercules... from eight o'clock on... ... until after midnight, when you'd hear Sparkle's doggy-door slap open. I swear you could understand the talk back "SHUT THE gently caress UP - IT'S A POSSUM YOU DAFT TWIT !!" then the slap of the doggy door as she went back inside... message delivered. Sparkle left when her owner moved out. gently caress I miss that dog. Cable Guy has a new favorite as of 10:12 on Mar 28, 2019 |

Maybe it's bad stock and bad breeders over here in the land of the free, but my god the drama in doing an exam, much less anything more taxing. My co-worker has a 3 yr old, 80 lb ridgeback that is loving gorgeous and when I house-sit for her, he literally wouldn't walk outside to pee by himself. I had to come with him and escort him around his own drat property.

Solice Kirsk posted:I always liked the Rhodesian Ridgeback. They fight lions. And a dog that fights lions is cool in my book. Years ago a friend I was rooming with got one as a puppy named Moja. I worked nights so I watched her during the day while he was at work. Since I was with her for most of the day we were pretty close. She was a typical puppy, but really smart and easy going though she definitely didn't like strangers. My friend got a second one about a year later that I didn't get to spend as much time with. Shortly later I moved away. When I visited they'd bark like crazy upon hearing someone knock on the door, but when they'd see me outside the window they'd stop and get all excited. My visits grew more infrequent and eventually I moved out of town and didn't see them for over 3 years. When in town I went to meet my friend at a huge park where his fiance was playing rugby. I came in on the opposite side of the playing field that was surrounded by people. While talking on the phone with my friend to find where he was I could hear Moja whining. He said before I called she started doing so and pulling on the leash and wouldn't settle down. Then as I called and he looked across the field to where I was he figured out why. She already spotted me. Over the years I'd visit here and there and she'd not leave my side the whole time often laying in my lap just staring up at me. We'd play hide 'n seek by throwing a blanket over them then run off to hide. She was always the first to get out from under it. Instead of running off to find us she'd first help pull the blanket off the other dog so they both could go together. She passed away all too young, around 10, and it broke our hearts immensely. She was the epitome of "good dog". I often wish for one more visit to tell her again how much she was loved. He has another one now, his 3rd ridgeback, and she's super sweet, too. They're awesome dogs, but definitely need room to run, consistent training and friends as does any dog I'd think.

I knew a chap with a mastiff/ridgeback cross called Elsa. The owner was a white Zimbabwean, covered in very crude tattoos and missing a good proportion of teeth, which along with a very thick accent and poor hearing (and consequent shouting) made him incomprehensible and menacing. Very nice when you got to know him, one of the only truly pleasant horse obsessed people I’ve met, and he had an uncanny ability to get on with horses that otherwise needed strong handlers to tack up. His dog was enormous, all muscle and had a toothy half-open resting mouth position like a shark. Like him, she looked mean but was very soft, but unlike him she didn’t know she looked scary, so she would chase people down to greet them and never understood why they ran. She liked to jump off the top steps of the horsebox, maybe 10 feet from the ground, onto me, and I think carrying that dense beast around did more for my core strength than years of riding. When relaxed she’d extend her tongue out until miles of it flapped all over the place. Miss that dog. The owner went to get a better paid job one summer when I was away.

I think this has probably been here before, but I just saw it and thought it was cool. Black player in the Turkish League gets called a very very bad thing by an opposition player. Offending player only gets a 3 week ban. So next time they play, the team mates of the player villified kick the poo poo out of the offending player. (Well as much as one can kick the poo poo out of someone in professional soccer.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-m0TC_rtm0&feature=youtu.be

There are many unpleasant things in this world that I'd prefer not to experience, but getting kicked in the dick by a professional soccer (sorry I'm American) player ranks pretty highly on top of that list.
