I don't see much of a point to that except for charge cooling perhaps.
Not blowing the engine apart from preignition. With all the heat left in the cylinder plus the additional compression heat of being turbocharged, it's really easy to get detonation if you're running stoichiometric.

This was recorded at Shelsley Walsh in July 2005. The car is four wheel drive, and is incredibly quick off the line, recording times of under 1.9 seconds for the uphill 64 feet marker, which is in excess of 2G off the line.

I wonder if the thing is limited mechanically or just by his ability to keep the car under control. Based on how it pulls out of the paddock in that first video it must be super lightweight.

I've watched this about 10 times today. Idiot ricer thinks he's going to move his Civic by putting it in a U-Haul. Never mind his poorly thought out plan, the ramps that are never going to work, or the fact that U-Haul rents a loving car trailer for $30.

Even better, this guy completes the douche trifecta by yelling at his girlfriend as if it's her fault.

I mentioned it in the AIest thread: the uhaul has nothing that looks like tie downs inside of it. The video description is also gold "yah brah this thing is fast, just needs an engine"

Unfortunately I can't the whole half hour at the moment, but I spotted this on cnn and ran the numbers quick, and this thing will take 4 miles to accelerate to 1000mph, right? Are there any stretches that long, straight, and flat in the UK? Or will they ship it to the Bonneville Salt Flats in the US?

No and no, they'll be attempting this run in South Africa, some place called Verneuk Pan.

assume average speed of 500 mph over those four miles (ie, constant acceleration), that's about 29 seconds zero-to-1000 mph.

Watch/ listen to the "in-car" camera with Andy Green in the Thrust SSC ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zL77yBUOZhQ ) . Things happen frighteningly fast, and Green is obviously tremendously exerted by the challenge of keeping the car on line.

Up the ante by 73% (I'm taking the ratio of the velocity squared, or the approx kinetic energy ratios of the two cars), and it seems nearly impossible. I presume stability controls will have advanced to make this feasible.

I had a manager who worked with a guy who had nearly taken the same finger off in the same conveyor two different times. The first time he was trying to point out something interesting about the conveyor on a tour, the second time he was showing someone else in the plant how he hurt his finger.

That was drat near as entertaining as the Peugeot "Climb Dance" film, and that's saying a hell of a lot; especially considering the route's been paved since. Getting a 911 sideways on a dust-covered road in a hairpin has to be a bit of a white-knuckle moment.

If I remember right, the driver said something along the lines of "I don't wear a helmet because if I crash at these speeds there will be nothing left of me anyways".

That's an old one, but a great one. That BTR layed down some serious power at the time, 430bhp IIRC. I love the way most times initial turn in leads straight into a slide/oversteer and you have to meter the power until it's staight again, then MASH IT! It's a good thing the motor's back there, of it would've never caught.

I'm gonna go recreate the Yellow bird on Forza III and see what time's she'll run. Only on the worst tires of course, no cheating...

Stefan Roser kicks rear end. In one of the few yellowbird ring videos, you can see he's wearing some normal 80's leather loafers.
I swear in some interview he mentions driving the ring in socks because he brought the wrong shoes.

It sounds like a dogbox to me; I thought you could shift dogboxes without clutching, just letting go of the gas and letting the dogs (or synchros or whatever) release, then shifting. It looks like he clutches in when he's leaving the paddock for the 1-2 shift though.
