Hey, folks. I've run a dozen or so LP threads over the years, and have pretty much stuck exclusively to this part of SA, so I'm looking for a bit of forum advice. Earlier this year I started a new channel for more high effort, highly edited review style videos. The LP forum doesn't seem like the place to share them, and the main games forum looks to be more geared toward specific games. Then there are others like Imp Zone that I'm not even sure I know what they're specifically for.

I guess I'm wondering if there's anywhere on SA that's appropriate to share your own review style videos. Maybe somewhere I could post one main thread for the channel that I could then update as new videos are released.

TODAY'S GONNA BE A GOOD MOTHERFUCKIN' DAY!!!
So the Pokemon Zeta LP ran into two problems. The first is that I got obsessed with doing another project unrelated to the LP forums and wasn't able to retain focus on the LP. The second is that I decided to do the LP both blind and stopping regularly to get audience participation on what Pokemon my readers would like me to use. I still want to finish this LP, but I might end up asking the audience for input less so I don't switch between getting footage and making updates so often.

I've had a lot of fun doing Pokemon LPs but they're kinda weird in that they have a lot of text, most of the battles in the game aren't very engaging or interesting to talk about, and they're not exactly visual spectacles, it's mainly a lot of standing around talking. So I had to spice things up by just kinda catching everything and doing everything and god I'm still not even halfway done with the series!

Let me first preface this with noting that I'm not familiar with your work, so I can't provide specific feedback. But I do want to say: what are your goals here? Are you trying to increase your audience? Write funnier commentary? Polish your video editing skills? Improve your actual gameplay? You're clearly dissatisfied with something, but equally clearly, you don't know what that something is. There's some small chance that external critique will help you identify it...but I expect that Let's Play, like most artforms, is primarily a self-driven production. You're gonna have to do the analysis, comparison with others, navel-gazing, whatever, to figure out what's wrong and where to go from here.

I’m hoping this thread can help me. Did ChipCheezum do a let’s play of part or all of Death Stranding? I remember watching a let’s play that had jokes about monster energy drinks and pointing out how the shower worked but I didn’t watch the whole thing before I decided to stop watching and play the game then I would finish it later.

Long story short, that was forever ago and I wanted to watch it now that the trailer for 2 has dropped. I haven’t had any luck finding anything so I’m wondering if I misremembered that it was Chip, or if the videos are gone now.

Thanks for anything y’all can share

Like Blue Bullets in Your Heart: Let’s Play Blues and Bullets

Blues and Bullets is an unfinished episodic adventure game, of which only two out of a promised five episodes were ever released. While it received generally positive reviews, the game did not sell very well, and the developer, A Crowd of Monsters, folded in 2016.

The game takes place in an alternate history where Elliot Ness retired to run a diner called "Blues and Bullets", in which he serves the most delicious blueberry pie. Of course, he gets dragged back in for one last case, working together with an aging Al Capone and an affable mob enforcer who studied cooking in prison and wants to learn the secret behind Ness' delicious blueberry pie.

While the game was never finished - and we will never learn the resolution to the mystery - it features some interesting game design and cool aesthetics, which I think are worth showing off. Just be prepared that the ending will be frustrating. It will be ... like blue bullets in your heart.

Just from a few minutes of watching, I think you should bring your narration volume up and bring the game's audio down a bit. The game is drowning you out especially when there's music. Also if there's audio settings that would let you lower the volume of the music, that might help as well.

Agreed with this, a bit of audio ducking when you're speaking would help.

Is this better? I tried turning up the narration and dialing down the game audio a bit. I'll look into how to do audio ducking in Camtasia (I paid 300 dollars for a Camtasia license eight years ago, so please do not tell me to use any other tool).

Combat Lobster

This is definitely a significant improvement.

I downloaded the latest version of Camtasia to see if auto-ducking was possible, and it's kinda is by inserting splits in the footage and using "edit audio"; but it's really janky and would produce undesirable side-effects. I won't tell you to use something else; but for 300 dollars, Camtasia seems like a all-around bad deal to me compared to other free options out there these days.

The auto-ducking I've done in some of my VLP work was just done with Audacity, but that comes at the jank cost of having to realign the game audio to the video yourself. There's probably better means of doing it than this.

I do like Camtasia, but for the following reasons:

• It does its own screen recording.
• It's a solid video editor with great GIF support for when I want to make a WebP of something.
• It's really great for overlaying stuff on the screen, including text and captions.
• I don't talk in my stuff, so I don't have to deal with any audio other than game audio.

It is, nonetheless, expensive - but it's cheaper than Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro, and the best free option I have is iMovie (I'm on a Mac), which is... OK at best for LP purposes as there's no screen recorder.

So it suits my use cases, but may not suit yours.

It seems that the latest Camtasia version has added a form of audio ducking called Emphasize. However, that would require me to update my license.

As long as the narration is clearly audible in the latest video, I don't think it is necessary. Thanks for the feedback.

OBS is free for screen recording and likely better than Camtasia. And DaVinci resolve is a professional grade video editor rivaling premiere and final cut. With a free version that gives you 99 % of all features. The only thing it doesn't do is webp, but it does export gifs.

Just in general, and I wanna say this very clearly, there is no reason to pay for a video editor as long as DaVinci exists the way it does now. I dismissed it for years, but after settling in, it actually is that good.

Not saying you should switch if you like what you're using but if anyone here is thinking of paying for something that should be free, instead get the free thing you should (and can) pay for.

I'm using Avidemux for my editing, but I also don't really need a lot of fanciness. I need to cut away black borders that occasionally occur when recording older games, very rarely I need to slap in a censor bar(I only needed that for Wizardry 8, so far), I need to cut snippets for .webp conversion and sometimes I need to cut some general dead space or a bit of dialogue video for uploading.
