Thinking that this page will result in Loup rethinking some of his ideas. More than that, very interesting to note that they're focusing entirely on her and not at all on him. Is that because they don't detect him to be a robot (he has an etheric presence, perhaps)? Or because of powers he's exerting to make sure they don't investigate too closely? Or maybe Lana (had to go and look up her name lol) is just so magnetic that nobody cares about "Jerrek". I love Lana and I hope she becomes a fixture. She has a lot of charisma and her confidence and complete lack of self-consciousness is very endearing. Also she looks cool! She really did do a great job on her appearance.

centuries of frustrated robot urges spilling forth the implication that Zimmy is single-handedly holding off a crazed god is ... remarkable. The stakes being lowered to the protecting those that the Court intends to leave behind (for how long? This is just winding up a school at that point isn't it?) also feels like a deflation - a bit short on the "shadowy powers shaping the future of humanity or reality itself" stakes ronya fucked around with this message at 13:07 on Feb 16, 2022 |

life_source posted:Intensely hosed up that you think this. The elves are refugees, speaking in a certain British dialect, showing up as a vague group of guys playing soccer in alleys. The comic is absolutely framing them in a particular class position, which is being mocked by Patware here but which is absolutely present in their characterization and presentation. The idea that the forest dweller refugees are in some sense an uprooted, more traditional British group now stranded in an urban, international/deracinated Court context is absolutely present - frankly, there's a little class anxiety in the way Eglamore's new girlfriend behaves and relates to the core cast of kids of white-collar techno-sorcerers. It's not inherently bad to engage these signifiers, but it does make this scene more uncomfortable. E: And like, I'm being really soft on Tom here - it's really blatant and definitely kinda weird that this framing was put into place, but I've more or less trusted that it was going to be handled pretty well, since 'kids of Court figures encounter kids from the magical working class, have some class anxiety' makes a lot of sense in terms of the characters and their world, their age, and their development. This bit though...

I'm sorry. I keep forgetting that this comic is Incredibly British in ways that I am culturally ignorant about. To pull this back a bit, Lana is still super jazzed about showing off her body to anyone and everyone. Her expressions on this page could be read as uncertain, but the last part is definitely her wanting to show off. The elves are likewise showing interest. Except that Lana probably doesn't realize the extent of what she is presenting and the elves are reading it in the obvious way. The next bit is probably going to be about what Loup does because of Lana's apparent naivety. Or maybe a Seraph since they still seem to be helicoptering weirdos.

Loup eats all the elf chavs (chalves?) in a sudden moment of emotion he's unable to comprehend. Lana fails to be appropriately alarmed by this because she doesn't have sufficient context to understand that all boys can't do this if the need should strike.

I definitely didn't read it as a porn intro, just incredibly uncomfortable at the possibility of sexual assault that a real scenario like this might lead to. I Really Truly hope that is not where this is going. I wonder what Loup thinks of all this and if he's going to intervene. Interesting detail of these lines on her hands. She has them in some of the pages in the chapter she's first introduced. I can't tell if they're meant to be exaggerated joints or cuts from working in the dirt. The robots seem to have exaggerated joints in general, see: Arthur, as a way to mark them as distinct from humans. There's a panel with Lana back in the prior chapter where her wrists look very defined. A good question: Do robots bleed

The 'realness' thing is probably justified, since they're probably trying not to end up as a wisp's lunch, imo. The other parts a bit more problematic. madjack fucked around with this message at 23:17 on Feb 16, 2022 |
