This was absolutely my experience. I was at a bbq on a sunday night, about 21 years old, and I had had a few beers and some ribs and brats. Then someone had a tray of brownies, and I was told "don't eat more than one". I ate one, and being either a complete lightweight or getting more than I expected, I was see-the-devil high for the next 14 hours. The only time I've ever called in to work the next day because I was still too intoxicated to drive in.

Filing cabinet locks aren't even that secure. We had the same thing at work, a cabinet that nobody could find the keys for and we were going to surplus it (I work for state government). I own a set of lockpicks and offered to bring them in and pick it. It took me all of about 7 seconds to do it, and the manager went :stare: "That's not very secure, is it?" The cabinet had a bunch of personnel files in it with SSN's/DOB/etc. That would have been bad.

You could probably pick it with a bent paperclip in under a minute, they're really lovely.

I've done it without my lock picks. It took me longer to find something that could turn the lock than it did to pick it once I did.

i call it fallout, or a weed-over, that day after when you're still somehow super high. first few times i did brownies it wasn't kicking in so I pressed my cohorts for smokable herb, they reluctantly gave in to my demands but advised that it was a mistake and soon i would be a goner. They were correct. I had to rewatch Interstella 5555 four different times before I could remember what the gently caress happened. And I would sit around crushing fanta orange like a man coming out of the desert.

Yiannopoulos had a different version of events, telling Page Six in a statement that “Meister Seelig & Fein were excellent litigators on my behalf. The source of the disagreement between me and them arises from Simon & Schuster’s discovery tactics. We asked that all pertinent documents be open to the public record. But Simon & Schuster demanded that virtually all of the documents in this lawsuit remain confidential, and had them classified ‘attorney’s eyes only,’ meaning that I am not even allowed to see what has been said about me and my book in my own lawsuit.”

Isn't this exactly what the lawyer is obliged to do, by law?

I mean, those documents are confidential, internal documents for a large company and having them public could negatively affect them no matter what the eventual outcome of the trial.

A lawyer quietly going through each one to see whether it actually pertains to the case before tossing them to the winds of public perusal is exactly what they should be doing.

Also, it would stop a vindictive piece of poo poo from suing people for no other reason than to force their private documents out into the open for no real reason other than to embarrass and hurt them.

Alternately, it would allow a wealthy corporation to easily deny all discovery of documents that would reveal its guilt, allowing them to wrong people and violate contracts with impunity and making them effectively immune to suit by private citizens, which is why we don't let people just wave a legal wand, gesticulate magically, and say "No, these documents are off-limits from discovery because they're "attorney's eyes only," whatever the gently caress that means. That's why there's this process called "discovery" and a shitload of rules of civil procedure governing it.

If the dispute gets contentious enough, the court can appoint a special master (neutral third party) to examine the evidence and give an opinion on it to the court. (IANAL tho)

That's not something that's easily done, because the plaintiff gets to participate in making his case and it's pretty hard for him to do that if he can't see documents produced during discovery. A party trying to keep them visible only to the plaintiff's lawyer needs to show that disclosure will result in a well-defined and serious injury, and back that up with specific facts. You can't just say "Because we want to," or "he could do something we don't like." Like, if there's any doubt whatsoever about it, courts say the plaintiff gets to see them.

Probably not. This was high school, it's incredibly difficult to expel a student from a public high school without some pretty serious due process.

It's much more likely that he withdrew voluntarily, which is why even the principal of the school doesn't say he was expelled, merely that he's no longer attending the school. But the chief "reporting" on the story seems to be babe.net, so it's not like any journalists are involved.

Edit: Actual details from a real news site:

https://www.wuft.org/news/2018/01/31/gainesville-high-school-student-no-longer-enrolled-after-offensive-social-media-posts/

quote:

Eileen Roy, Alachua County Public Schools board member, said the student was not expelled, but she could not comment on whether the student’s departure from the high school was a mutual decision agreed upon by both the student’s parents and the administration.

“If he did not leave, we might have done [the process],” she said.
