Hey sorry I didn't reply earlier, I forgot about this thread after I blew off the best-of today...He just never has anything funny to say. The guy's obviously smart, and I'm not gonna hold the way he talks against him, but half the time he's chiming in riding the coattails of a rant of Adam's. For example: I think it was this week when Adam was going on about someone "drawing first blood," to the point of doing an impression of the dude from the movie, and Bryan says "like in Rambo." Which just hung a light on the reference and killed it, in addition to being being 2 beats late like most of his observations. Or frequently he'll just name another example of something Adam is ranting about. Honestly, if you're having a conversation and think you've made a clever joke, when someone explains it by hijacking it to make their own lame attempt at one, it sucks. Honestly, the drops are an extension of this: Adam mentions his mother............."why would you ask me that?!"(or whatever that byte is). These have gotten better, though. To me, if the joke is so obvious that it is implied, it should remain unsaid.

A couple days into the new format when he was still doing way too many drops it was real obvious that Theresa and Adam were annoyed but didn't say anything when the drops would frequently cut them off or just carry on too long. Maybe it's because I never heard him on the old show before he was sick, but he just never has an observation of his own or anything to really bring to the party.

No offense but I think you're exaggerating a bit. Especially about the Rambo thing, from what I remember. Thats not really how it happened. Further, the drop from his Mom is more like, "How should I know?". Bryan usually very quick witted and excellent at Yes anding which is apparently a fundamental part of Improv comedy as it allows you to continue riffing on the subject at hand.

Second, I think you need to realize the Bryan has a vicious brain tumor thats he cant afford to pay for. This is why Adam has him on the show so he can earn some cash to live another day. He's still going through week long chemo therapy session as I type this.

So, basically, whenever you have a complaint about Bryan, remember his brain is trying to kill him. I hate to use that as a copout but its painfully obvious thats the cause of a lot of issues people recently developed for him. You can almost tell the days he's so sick he can barely walk. This isn't an hyperbole, he sometimes has to use a walker and he cant drive himself anywhere his wife has to be there for him a lot.

tl;dr: Have a heart, friend.

I just listened to the Will Arnett episode here and I like this.

I like having large amounts of stuff like this to listen to (insomnia, ahoy) but the archive is fairly intimidating and a 44gb torrent with two seeders is fairly intimidating.

Between which dates should I get? To listen to chronologically. If there's a better source (I don't mind donating for bandwidth) to get hold of them that'd be cool, too.

when it comes to the meat of interacting with the callers, you will not be able to distinguish 1995 from 2005. There is no reason to listen chronologically or rush through them, just take it easy and enjoy.

I agree with most of what's been said about Psycho Mike. He's okay in the background, but not engaging enough for a host gig.

That being said, he's been making fun of armenians for a while on the kevin and bean show, so I actually don't think he was jacking Adam on that specific reference

I think its easier to hear the contrasts when I jump between episodes. i also don't want to have to wait X years to get to 2004 or whatever.

Why do a lot of you seem to avoid the 90s era shows? The dynamic and flow is the same throughout, and has the advantage of less "being a celebrity" anecdotes and rants by Adam.

When did the Loveline episode with the KROQ auction winner as a guest air? I've heard Drew and Adam talking about it all the time -- the bid was up to $15 grand or something -- but haven't come across the episode with the winner. The auction benefited survivors of the big Indonesian tsunami, if I recall.

EDIT: Found them. 2005-02-23 and 2005-03-06.

There were actually two sets of winners who both gave 15,000, the episode with the other couple is a constant source of poo poo from Adam due to Drew telling them on the air that they didn't know where their money was going.

1996 is a bit of a weird year. In the first part of the year Adam is REALLY energetic, almost like a real radio host. He definitely has a lot of Riki influence, even though Riki had already left at the end of 1995. Longer calls, no making fun of the callers, and really upbeat mood.

Then sometime (I haven't gotten to this point yet) he switches over to the Adam we know and love. I can't wait until I get to this so I can figure out when it is.

Haha, I'm listening to a show from 2001 and Drew is talking about how people with rashes on their genitals should take pictures of it and send them to him so he can better diagnose it. Adam sensibly points out that he might get in trouble if underage kids send him pictures like that, but Drew just brushes it off with a "no, I'll be the only one to look at it and then they'll be deleted."

Ah... it was a more innocent time. :shobon:

if you find the '96 episode where Adam first told the anecdote about : sneaking into a pool with his friends, pumping water up their asses, holding it, then forcibly ejecting (due to the strength of the sphincter muscle) their rear end water at each other, I would be highly indebted.

Even that story was not enough to stop drunk Fletcher in '99. The utter desperation and fear in Drew and Adam's voice trying to tell that story in order stop Fletcher from pooing on them... you are all missing such gold by not listening to 90s episodes.

oddly enough the last 3 random episodes (like 97, 00, and 02) had Adam telling the exact same story about how he was ashamed to rent Asian porn because an older Asian man was right behind him looking at ebony porn.

Well, he is the founder AND professor at the Dr. Drew School of Radio. Make sure to nod, write down lots of notes and say 'it looks likes this'.

I forget which episode it was, but there was one time where Drew and Adam got in a debate about where a city was in relation to their place in the studio, which lead to a good couple minutes of great radio:

Adam: No... Santa Monica is this way, Pasadena is that way.
Drew: Yeah, that's where I'm pointing. That's where the beach is.
Adam: Are you high, Drew? You can't point the same way I'm pointing!
Drew: No, look, here's the interstate, here's Culver City, here's north, here's Pasadena. See?
Adam: I don't think so.
Drew: Think about it, I'm pretty sure this way is north..
Adam: Just wanted to add in, this is some great radio right here.

After the break, the go into the whole story about how they had to walk out of the studio with their respective arms pointed in different directions, through all the doors and hallways, looking like idiots to try and prove a point. I think Drew was right. It may have been the Drew's Greatest Night Episode.
