Heated Gaming Moment posted:Is Hong Kong protestors bad the new hot take eh, they've certainly lost a lot of cpsam support for a couple reasons: - some visible, but likely fringe, elements are playing nice with pepe-types in the US (probably partly just due to not having that solid a handle on US domestic issues) - they seem kind of dominated by young professionals rather than blue collar type workers who are kind of left out of the demands - rebelling against a ruling communist party rubs leftists the wrong way on its face, but obviously there's a lot of layers to this since they're more rebelling against a hyper-free market government whose ruling class is trying to stay in the good graces of an overarching communist party that shows some authoritarian instincts you can tell from how many "kind ofs" and "sortas" in the above that there a lot of gray area to it

There's also the issue that Western media is hyper focused on the Hong Kong protests but ignores the much bloodier ones happening in half a dozen other us friendly countries.

they get attention but I don’t particularly see how they themselves contribute to it. as far as I’ve seen it’s not something they even aim for it just kind of happened for obvious reasons. unless you think SA protests are idiots for not getting media attention. So that point is kind of stupid

Sure HK gets more attention than say Chile but that doesn't minimise their struggle. Instead is just highlights how messed up the media is.

The problem with the Hong Kong protests has nothing to do with the actual protests, it's all in how Western media and governments are using the protests for propaganda purposes. As to Hong Kong itself I don't really care, both Hong Kong and mainland China are pretty poo poo places to live as it is but at least China's trending upward for most people while in Hong Kong the working class increasingly live in cages.

wait the genocidal stuff has nothing to do with Hong Kong. Unless you think that being involved in a genocide means they are wrong about everything but since the US supports Hong Kong pretty universally you are indirectly supporting genocide one way or the other

The protesters were directly calling for US lawmakers to pass the HK Freedom Bill or whatever the gently caress it is. Very normal requests!
