Any of you guys with iPhone 4's tried out the new HDR feature on the standard camera yet? It's very very good, no horrible halos or nuclear wastelands, just nice images really.

As an exercise for myself, I coded up a quick online table to show how much I've blown on this hobby. I don't know what's worse: that I've already spent this much that I probably will end up spending even more in the future.

Anyone tell me why a flash-head might go from ETTL to plain TTL and then back without any user input? Shooting my 50d last night with a 580exII attached via a 1meter curlycord; first few photos were fine then all of a sudden massive overexposure - check the flash and its now TTL... Swear and switch to manual until there's an intermission, dismantle everything and rub the contacts on camera, flash and cord - back to ETTL for the next acts. Hmmf, these things are sent to try us

There is no plain TTL. It's either E-TTL (II if you want to be very specific) or manual. There was a "plain TTL" at one point but that hasn't been around since before 1995.

I went to the local 4th of July flea market this year and left with two new cameras! camers by atomicthumbs, on Flickr From left to right: Mamiya 150mm 2.8, Mamiya 80mm 2.8, Mamiya 645 with 35mm 3.5 and grip, Kodak Retina Reflex IV with Schneider-Kreuznach Retina-Xenon 50mm 1.9, Pentax Spotmatic SP with Super Takumar 55mm 1.9, and my mom's AE-1 as a guest to make my collection look bigger. I paid $3 for the Retina Reflex, and my grandmom has a pair of lenses for an Instamatic Retina Reflex that might work with it. The selenium meter seems accurate, which is a definite plus The Spotmatic was $40, with a case. I might get an Industar 50-2 for it so I can put it in my pocket. Two questions: is the Takumar 55mm 1.8 lens a good one, and how would I go about cleaning the inner bits of the Retina Reflex? The viewfinder is really hazy (lens was fine after I cleaned it off). Edit: Apparently the Super Takumar 55mm is fantastic atomicthumbs fucked around with this message at 00:13 on Jul 5, 2011 |

Anyone ever heard of http://www.wooloo.org/ ? I've received three emails from people there in the past 6 months or so wanting me to join, each one seemingly more personalized (that last one discussing specific projects I've done). I can't tell if this is actually something that would get me shows/buyers/clients or not. It is free, though.

I'm gonna pimp this here a little because I thought it was a cool idea, and it was good fun. A friend of mine asked me to model for a shoot, the premise was that as soon as we got into the room for the shoot, he couldn't say a word. He could point and gesture, but nothing more than that. Led to some fun shots, and it was an interesting day. Was nice to be a model rather than a photog / assisting for once. http://charlieclift.blogspot.com/2011/07/silent-portraits-will.html

People only seem to want to know how much my gear costs. Sorry, random guy on the street, I'm not going to tell you straight up that the equipment that I am holding in my hands is worth more than $4,000. That and the fact that they clearly don't know anything about photography if that's the first thing that they ask me.

I've been carrying various film bodies around pretty consistently for the past month or so, and the only one people comment on is the Nikomat. Not the Nikon FM or FG or Minolta SRT-102, only the Nikomat. Maybe it's the 135 f/2.8....

Either of these questions, if answered, will invariably be followed up with 'only three times/18mp?! My CoolPix/iPhone has more LOLZ!'. Yes, technically my 17-55 and 150-500 are 'three times zoom'.
