In the context of this joke, probably Stephen Harper. Or the CEO of Kinder Morgan or a similar oil company. Or Doug Ford.

Look, there’s a lot of people who would cradle Scheer’s jiggly flesh and lovingly murmur “That’ll do, pig.” into his ear if he actually pulls off the win in October.

There are currently two official leaders’ debates scheduled, an English-language debate scheduled for October 7 and a French-language debate scheduled for October 10. Currently Trudeau, Scheer, Singh, May, and Blanchet are invited to these two debates, but Bernier is not, because the PPC has not met the debates’ requirements. If the PPC can nominate candidates in 90% of ridings and demonstrate through opinion polling by September 16 that their candidates have a legitimate chance to be elected, then Bernier may be invited to the debates after all. There is also an unofficial Maclean's/CityTV debate taking place on September 12, to which Bernier has not been invited and Trudeau has not yet confirmed his attendance. Protesters have called for an additional debate focused solely on climate change, to reflect the magnitude of the climate crisis, but have so far been refused. It is possible an additional debate will be organized by the Munk Debates focused on foreign policy.

There is now also a TVA/LCN French-language debate on October 2nd, with JT, Scheer, Jagmeet, and a man named "Yves-François Blanchet" attending.

Alberta continues to gently caress public sector workers. Yay. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/alberta-court-ruling-bill-9-injunction-1.5273402?__vfz=medium%3Dsharebar
As far as the rumour mill goes, there will be cuts, not by attrition, and there will be no buy-outs or early retirement. So uh, if you're in the public sector in AB, I hear BC is nice?

I don’t think I’ve heard anyone IRL mention Torontonians in decades. “gently caress off Albertans” is a daily sentiment, usually in traffic but often in other public spaces.

I don’t think Albertans have any idea how much the rest of Canada loathes them. It makes the Quebec stuff from the 90s seem like a drop in the bucket. If a credible Albertan separatist movement were to emerge they could fundraise tens of thousands of dollars from BC on day one.

The smart Albertans pretend to be from Saskatchewan or Manitoba when they come here.

I'm not defending Alberta's virtues and I'm not sure how you got that from that statement. There was literally nothing about Alberta in that statement other than that I used to work for the AB Gov. I haven't worked as anything other than a student for the PCs, so I can't say much about them.

However, my experience with the AB public service is that there are a lot of good people in there, who are invested in improving people's lives. Call me confused, but people, even in here, seem really invested in being *really weird* about public servants and hosed if I know why.

Alberta's public servants in general have, and continue under the UCP, to be party stooges for the PCs. It's a tradition as old as the PCs reign. With the ANDP government I've heard specific examples of public servants loving over their ministers to make things fail. So excuse me, when the public servants I've met laugh about sabotaging progressive movements to my face it makes me see 'former Alberta public servant' think of a lying mouthbreather.

I don't know, which province are you in? If it's Alberta, some of the NDP policies were actually decent, particularly around child care and school nutrition. poo poo tier on other things for sure, but I don't deal in Energy and pipeline fellatio. Indexing social support was good, albeit something that should have been done in 2012 when the AG recommended it.

Edit: i have literally never met any bureaucrat who has done that kind of poo poo, and think that's uh... loving bizarre and unethical. And y'know, maybe it's not great to assume things about people?

If they're from Edmonton I would think it is plausible they've not met those kinds of broke-brained public servants. This past election basically anyone that was anti-UCP seemed to be immediately identified as being from "Redmonton" even if this was someone in Fort Macmurray, Calgary, or even shittier places like Grande Prairie.

For some reason the rest of Alberta (and likely quite a few people living in Edmonton because no one in this province is safe from conservative poisoning) seem to view Edmonton as a spawning ground for leftist and radical thinking. I guess it's not difficult to have that view when the majority in every other municipality is all right-wing and possibly even ultra right-wing these days.

I grew up in Edmonton so I can say that it is certainly a lot more open-minded than say Calgary, but having spent the past 2 years living in Ontario I have to say that being open-minded is a pretty low bar to clear (not that Ontario doesn't currently have its own issues with conservative poisoning)

Like again, this is a province where public sector employees including nurses and teachers join the PCs and now UCP to vote for the least lovely candidate rather than join a party that actually represents their interests. My mother and step-dad in particular were trying to get someone other than LaGrange in for the UCP because of how lovely she is but that didn't happen. Albertan public employees let themselves be treated like poo poo.
