A lot of the Scythe art was plagiarized: https://www.imgur.com/gallery/pEsUJ

That's lovely but the designs are cool and this is the cool mecha thread.

I feel like somebody needed to post these in this thread.

Looking through his (Jakub Rozalski's) stuff on artstation, I feel like a lot of his stuff reminds me of what Battletech is supposed to look like (giant mechas strolling through and fighting over low tech medieval worlds), but we've never really gotten good art depicting that.

There is a bit of an issue I think with the overall design of the mechs. A lot of them don't really seem well-conceived, and a few of them are basically just real-world vehicles on legs. Saxony has a tank on legs, the Nordic Kingdom has a boat on legs, the Crimean Khanate is basically the Tsar tank but with legs added. The official art is also very beautiful, but a lot of the time the mech depicted isn't even one of the mechs actually in the game.

Yeah. The landscape art is great but the mechs themselves aren't interesting.

Artists imitating others' compositions or using reference photos is as old as time. Everything is derivative. The whole fake tutorial thing to mislead people isn't amusing, though.

Good artists copy, great artists steal.

The only difference is the ability to hide your source.

This is a silly post with little news value.

ulla!
I love this design. it's so clearly alien to anything 19th century Brits have seen, and not taken from transplanting real life 20th century tech backwards.

there was a late 90s RTS based on Command & Conquer mechanics and this art for the Martian mechs. I vaguely remember it being decent to play but could be nostalgia tinted recollections there.
the techno remix of the Jeff Wayne prog musical for the game's soundtrack was very hit and miss though.

Usually I'm able to suspend my disbelief wrt practicality of mechs(at least to an extent), but in the context of a world war setting the only thing I can think about is a shell from a bunker hundreds of yards away smashing into these needlessly high profile robot's flimsy midsections

This is why Orks are da Best. Their Gargant mechas all have armored aprons and skirts that protect the legs and tracks so they're more like giant artillery towers crossed with weapons zed cranes.
