I'm afraid so.
I liked the idea the previous threads had to give out achievements for completing the game in certain ways. Things like Iron Man for winning BG1 or BG2, Iron King for winning BG1 & 2 with a single character, Iron Throne for winning everything through Throne of Bhaal, etc. There were also a bunch of weird ones like winning with an underpowered class like Jester or Wizard Slayer, joke-shame awards like winning with an overpowered class like Inquisitor or winning on a lower difficulty. Canoneer award for winning with the canon party of Imoen, Jaheira & Khalid, Minsc & Dynaheir, etc.

If I could only somewhere find Aias, master of the warcry, then we could go forth and again ignite our battle-lust, even in the face of the gods themselves.
That'll all be in, don't worry. Might see if I can track down whoever did the icons and beg a few more out of them, even.

It seems like IWD is more forgiving of Ironman runs due to not having a single CHARNAME you have to protect. I am really enjoying my 1st time ever run through by the way but the Archer kit is definitely OP for the base difficulty.

What I want to see: Ironman Insane Jester using SCS through the entire BG storyline.

I'm going to be doing Ironman/Insane again, and even I don't have big enough cajones for the rest of that.

Yeah the Archer kit seems pretty horrendously broken in IWD. A friend and I are going through multiplayer on insane, and just after the Shattered Hand, my Archer is sitting at 5 attacks at 0 thac0 assuming nonmagical arrows with a minimum damage of 10. Even some of the encounters I remember being difficult aren't anymore, because I just point her at anything remotely threatening and watch it melt.

Does the archer kit work with thrown weapons or crossbows and slings? Because I have an idea for a kinda hilarious custom party.

Jesters are great for ironman, see my run from the last thread. It wasn't SCS, but still.

Jesters are better than base bard, and base bard isn't that bad in a full party, you just need to concentrate on buffs and accept that they may not kill much, but they'll help everyone else kill better.

I'll probably go for a sorc, since i want to play a mage but I found BG1 with full SCS really tedious with a solo mage. There's not enough spells available, you'll have free high lvl slots and nothing to cast.

Dwarf bounty hunter for me.

"Final" BG party will be PC, Coran, Safana dualed to mage, Kagain, Faldorn and uhh, Quayle I guess?

Maybe swap Faldorn for Branwen and pick up Dorn for maximum bounty hunter/merc action. :getin:

Who am I kidding... I'm going to die while setting up a trap right?

I started my run as a elf sorc, going for ironling, ironman, iron god, born hero, purist, librarian, melee champion, honorable trader, iron party, battlemaster, dragon slayer, legendary arms at the minimum and probably throw in some lich stuff as well.

Well it would be a gimmick run with a gimmick party so... I'm thinking 6 specialist mages of different schools and I'll only hand out scrolls of the characters school unless I have duplicates.

I've always wanted to do an all rogue party as well. Backstabs and traps all day~ ♪♫

Think I'm going Cleric/Ranger and stay at the back of the party. Wish I could use bows as a multiclass*.

One of the achievements should be rolling a character stats and not using any rerolls or stat changes. Old school.

Another one should be playing Core Rules, as it was meant to be.

Haer'Dalis always felt a bit unfinished to me, it may be because the Aerie/Haer'Dalis/CHARNAME love triangle got cut or whatever. I actually have that feeling with a lot of BG2's characters.

Just finishing up a playthough of IWD EE so it's about time I gave hardcore BG another shot. Probably won't get far though. I only play with SCS anymore, since vanilla got boring after a while. Most encounters in SCS still aren't too challenging for a prepared party. The only issue is that some of the world travel encounters and surprise bounty hunter attacks are absolutely devastating, and low level spellcasters don't have enough "oh poo poo!" panic buttons to survive ambushes unscathed.

There was a lot of content left on the cutting room floor unfortunately. I think Valygar got the worst of it, but there's other npcs like Mazzy and Cernd who could really have used a bit of extra polish. Not to mention all the problems with Dynaheir's quest line.

Haer'Dalis and Valygar were both planned to be romance options for a female PC, and Gaider briefly pushed for HD as a bi romance option before Black Isle said no to that.

Huh, that's a little ironic considering the vocal part of Bioware's fans that are now clamouring for more bi/pan-sexual npcs. They had no idea what was going to happen over the course of a decade and a half.

Nope. According to Gaider, the reason Valygar and HD's romances were cut for time constraints was because Black Isle didn't consider women players or men playing female characters a likely audience for their Dungeons and Dragons computer game.

It's kinda funny when you think about it. Gaider, and Bioware in general, have repeatedly said that they were very surprised at the strong female fanbase the Baldur's Gate series developed and how much the fanbase in general enjoyed the romances and wanted more. They weren't expecting either response at all.

Love it or hate it, the modern Bioware we know and the games they like to make was largely a result of the fan reaction to the Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale games: conventional Dungeons and Dragons dungeon crawling with player-generated parties just wasn't as appealing, it seemed, as games with a player-defined protagonist and a retinue of colorful and eccentric NPCs who join up and at least one of whom per gender wants in the protagonist's pants.
