Transformers Cloud seems to be "Hey, let's take whatever recent figures we've made and repaint them into the main characters who already have a million toys." Blitzwing\Doubledealer has a cockpit chest? Starscream! Whirl has a monoeye? Shockwave! Springer, uh... has like a head crest kinda thing? Rodimus! Like some of them look okay but I already have those molds and better representations of those characters so there's like zero point to these, other than the novelty of having characters transform into things they're not supposed to, like a tank Starscream or a helicopter Shockwave.

I kind of like the burly tankscream Starscream always wanted megatron's job so it'd be fitting he'd take his altmode (without giving up on his jet mode because why would he ever give up on his jet mode)

Heli Shockwave is no weirder than his FoC jet mode. He is like Megs and Soundwave, his original alt mode was a giant laser gun. He did kinda settled into being mobile artillery lately.

The Cloud series is odd but it's not like we're missing out on anything because of it. A shame that the Blitzwing mold is Starscream and not a Skywarp/Megatron figure--it could even have a head that's Skywarp on one side and Megatron on the other.

Plus the fact they charge x4 the price for those Cloud figures.

Rita Repulsa posted:Why isn't he bulkhead Cause half the characters in the live action movies have random names that have next to nothing to do with their G1 namesakes. Though if you mean strictly from a marketing perspective Bulkhead would still make more sense since he's been featured in the last two recent shows. Calling a Generations Bulkhead Upgrade kit now.

Hasbro probably thought there were already two versions of Bulkhead in two animated series, and the Prime one had plenty of toys.

I really do like that voyager though I feel like once again I want to see if they repaint it. A new headsculpt would make for a really awesome looking Bulkhead indeed. On the other hand, that Hound looks basically like my father as a robot, which is sort of awesome for making my sister crack up. This toyline just looks so much better than the DOTM one it is incredible.

CAPT. Rainbowbeard posted:Bay's gonna Bay. It's fairly remarkable how the Bay crew is almost actively trying to provoke fans. It's not like it matters, though. Honest to god I have a hard time telling how many different characters are in a scene in those movies- everything looks identical, and the colors and way characters are constructed make their silhouettes blend into one another.

All they need to do to make a Lost Light TV show is just take Deep Space Nine and make everything robots. This will work why won't they do this? Instead we get chin Bumblebee with headlight pecs. I'm not really going to bother with the movie, at least hound will have a distinctive shape compared to everything else.

Almost every character design revealed for the new movie look unique to me. Crosshairs have a trenchcoat, Drift is a samurai, Grimlock looks like a knight with giant shoulders, and Galvatron is silver with an arc reactor thing on its chest. The character designs for the 3rd movie also made at least the Autobots easier to tell from one another, a lot of it probably thanks to each of them being a different color. Maybe that's one reason Ironhide gets killed off, his mostly black paint job doesn't fit in with the rest of the Autobots.
|
# ? Apr 7, 2014 23:41 |

The Autobots in the movies have always had varied colors, but the problem has always been the Decepticons, who are all malformed insectoid things with green/grey/brown coloring and no character development. Adding in tons of clones to pad out Megatron's armies of cannon fodder with no explanation whatsoever didn't help.

Nah gotta disagree the guy is great at concepts and stories and all that. Credit where it's due. But all his characters have the same "voice" and it's distractingly bad if dialogue is your bread and butter.

As much as I like MTMTE it does bug me how similar the dialogue is from character to character (not all, but a lot), like they all have the exact same sense of quippy humor.

I am being 100% fair, everything Whedon-inspired reads exactly as the same snappy, quip, punky dialogue. It is so out of character to read Megatron snapping back to Overlord like Tony Stark in last stand of the wreckers. I understand if you like his series, movies, etc. but please don't presume to convince me his writing style is this wonderfully varied John Huston/Ingmar Bergman fountain of golden prose.
