Ordinator is still my favourite relative to SPERG but both are amazing.

Speaking of that. I found out I love 2 handed + destruction for dragons in the sky. Are there any mods that focus purely on making melee great alongside Ordinator?

Heavy + Two is very much more fun than it seems.

So I bit the bullet and followed that Nordic Skyrim guide. About 450 mods, 300 esps and ESLs, took about 10 hours. And outside of like, two easily fixed issues it's been shockingly stable. Played for about ten hours or so with one ctd. Not half bad for how ridiculously bloated this mod setup is. It looks really pretty though - and there's a lot of content!

Have I been just ridiculously lucky somehow? I've never had a ctd on the PC version of Skyrim, except for times when the game wouldn't even start due to mod conflicts, which were generally fairly easy to resolve.

The game would crash all the time on my brother's PS3, but I figured that was because there was no unofficial patch on PS3.

I've had two ctds (I made the mistake of thinking I could alt-tab while playing modded Skyrim, silly me) and one very alarming hard crash that made a terrible noise that nearly blew my eardrums out but this is over the course of like eighty hours played with the particular mod setup I'm using so I'm not feeling too bad about it. I'm still saving constantly but part of that is Oblivion PTSD from walking around corners and running into random trolls.

Generally, I’d say yes. I had a really weird time with my latest mod set up where I had to redo my entire install process like three times because it would just crash on a hair trigger. It got to the point where I created a brand new vanilla save and just started loading mods into it one by one outside of Helgen cave to try and manually root out the one that was causing the crashes, and as it turned out the silver bullet that solved everything was installing an ENB. The second I did that it stopped crashing and has been completely stable for going on like 3 months now.

What lighting mods do people like?

I'm following this guide which recommends Relighting Skyrim - SSE but it doesn't provide any daylight near the bear in the tutorial dungeon at all.

Next I tried Realistic Lighting Overhaul but it gives items like braziers huge spherical light areas that look wrong and provide way too much light.

Finally I tried Enhanced Lights and FX and that was closer but outside looks off and the light coming into the cave looks a little too bright.

All three were loaded after Enhanced Lighting for ENB (ELE) - Special Edition so maybe I should I remove it since I'm not using ENB (even though the guide I'm following suggested to use it without ENB)?

It's worth noting that there's a few "sexytime" things in Tucoguide that can be safely ignored. I installed UNP because I didn't know what armor poo poo would be affected by not having it (if any) but Immersive Wenches, Tembtra Thief Armor, and Celes Nightingale Armor can all be pretty safely ignored, although I will note that Tembtra Thief does have craftable pouches which are unobtrusive and add 100 points of carrying capacity. I only mention this stuff because I used Tucoguide and it can make the game extremely pretty and doesn't add too much extraneous stuff if you just want to play pretty Skyrim.

There's another mod that adds bandoliers and other carrying items as random equipment, and they come in all sorts of cool styles like Imperial and Dawnguard. They have varying capacity buffs based on size, and you can wear like 3 belts at one for maximum 90s comic book aesthetic. I forget the name, but it's a nice an unobtrusive solution, plus you can really easily get like 750 carrying capacity if you don't mind looking like a character out of a Rob Liefield comic (I'm being hyperbolic, they aren't even remotely that ridiculous).

Yeah, I peeked through the Nordic list and I think the ideal modding solution for me will probably be to use Tucoguide as a base and pick and choose compatible poo poo from Nordic to go with. It's just a minor thing but I grabbed the pastel UI markers thing and it's neat. Adds a little splash of unobtrusive color to the mix.

I actually did this exact thing a month or so ago and have had the same results. There was one character that I had to restart due to frequent CTDs, but I think it's because of something I was doing and not the mod list. Other than the one instance (and like you said, some minor fixes), it's worked surprisingly well. I also like that the author gives options and details for everything, just in case you don't like the choices they've made.

I also get the feeling you can easily leave stuff out if you want. I skipped entirely over the "Child NPC Overhaul" section and have zero remorse for doing so. Likewise, you can probably skip all the "sexy" animation bullshit and just get the combat related stuff.

Most of the good stuff in mod lists seems to be in the "edit this, delete that, move this over here, download this patch" that happens mostly in the setup and with tweaking graphics. Everything else is optional.

Nordic Skyrim: A-

Edit to add: only complaint is FPS stutters when first loading into/looking at a town, but that's probably due to modders thinking a town isn't complete until every single square inch is filled with clutter.

I don't even think there's a general Skyrim thread anymore but God drat I love poo poo like this: I went to do the cannibal quest line, expecting that at some point I'd get the chance to do the quest in a "good" way but nope, just ended up killing Brother Veranacus. Of course, I'd already helped him out and become Thane of Markarth, so I'm shopping in the stalls in Riften when a courier runs up and delivers me an inheritance letter from Brother Varanacus' state. That's hilarious. Another thing: I come home to Lakeview Manor where Lydia is steward. She says to me "we might have a problem with the cellar, I heard some scurrying from down there, you might want to check it out."

Yeah, there's many, MANY reasons you don't want to just blindly install poo poo from the list.

Like the weird "sexy" loading screen thing someone else pointed out. Or any of the followers (other than Inigo). Or the 3d Trees mod (which is also not sexy).

Maybe I'm going to bump my score down from an A- to a solid B because I genuinely forgot half that poo poo is on there.

Edit: Speaking of companions, hey what's up with that Mrissi (sp?) mod that adds the khajit girl companion? Yeah, I know that type of cat person is lore-friendly in Tamriel, but when I looked at the mod it said it had a lot of "mature themes" and I backed right the gently caress away from it because, being a mod on the Nexus, I knew exactly what that was going to mean. Is it as weird and creepy as I assume it is?
