So, who's better? 1986 Steve Sax or 1999 Robbie Alomar? Edit: This team is going in the Astrodome, if that makes any difference. ArtVandelay fucked around with this message at 20:10 on Jun 12, 2011 |

If I'm not mistaken your roster is 1986 and 1987 NL chumps, 1999 AL champs, 2004 AL chumps? 2004 Melvin Mora looks nice, he was an Oriole so I assume he counts. If you used 2004 AL as your champs you'd get Chone Figgins but don't do that please, similarly 1987 Terry Pendleton with '87 NL as champs. Your 3B options are pretty weak aside from Schmidt, yikes. I'd still go with Mora, though. e: as far as 1Bs: um, I dunno. '99 Edgar Martinez? oh wait the mariners were chumps that year. yeah those are definite sore spots saffi faildotter fucked around with this message at 23:26 on Jun 12, 2011 |

Yeah, i'm doing 99 champs, and I just replaced Schmidt with 04 Mora. I just got rid of Thome at first, so I have about 7-8 million to spend on a first baseman, and then about 2+ for a bench. I really have no idea where to go with this. Edit: i'm guessing I can take pretty much any player and plug him in at first, so that's slightly more helpful. Not too many people with speed who actually cost money, otherwise Lofton or the terrible hitting 107 Vince Coleman steal season would be there.

Jim Jam's gonna be kind of a weak power bat at 1B (irony zone) but he might be your best call for OBP. Not really a huge fan of him in the Astrodome. Ideally I'd go for someone like '87 Jack Clark, but the Cardinals were champs that year. I'd be considering '99 Giambi, but eesh he's just a more expensive Thome. e: 1987 John Kruk. You have to do this

Edit: Or I could also go with 99 Jeter.

So, as an update, my S2 RC&C team was swept out of the divisional round by AV, my S3 team was swept out of the conference championship by AV, and now my S4 team and AV's team are in the conference finals opposite each other. This is destiny.

AV, it looks like RC&C destiny isn't meant to be. Meanwhile, I think my Random Captains team is pretty Citoball-esque, still on pace for 282 dingers through 58 games (albeit with a DH): http://www.whatifsports.com/mlb-l/playerstats.asp?teamid=1063773<id=0&lid=95690 It's just too bad I didn't have a decent power-hitting 2B, Molitor's dragging me down from pure Citoballage.

To be fair, Tenace has been horrible and I way over drafted innings (who knew 1302 would be far far too many in Coors???). I have a build in the draft center that takes the concept to the next level (Tenace and Gus Getz both become Jimmie Foxx and Bill Terry at 1B becomes Roger Connor), pitching is better in theory because I dropped about 50 IP (everyone is at 100% every game now for me with 1302 draft so......). I screwed up a bunch of things and still it managed to do really well with a half blind attempt.

Scrotos posted:Holy poo poo balls. Isn't that the one with your already stacked SPing? Yes it is. However, it looks like there's one team who can outbid me, so I'm gonna make him pay at least 34 mil. Luckily, this guy showed up on the same day -- I poo poo you not. No one else will be able to outbid, so I should get this guy, although it'll be pricey. My IFA scouting is only a 10, so those projections are probably a bit high....might make the guy with slightly less of a prospect budget than me have to pay out the rear end for Zumaya, then I'll snipe the next two best IFAs at reduced prices.

ThatsMyBoye posted:Saez is quite a bit better, you should try your hardest for him. Oh, no doubt. I've got 33m in prospect if I punt the draft, one guy has 40. So, for this upcoming cycle, I've got a 33m bid in. As soon as he beats it, I'll gauge the market on Zumaya. gonna try to play it right but it's gonna be tough...I'd like to leave the 34m bid on Saez in until the end, but I don't want to lose out on Zumaya because of it. So we'll see.
