So pissed that the Kings didn't try to match the Lakers offer for Reaves and trade Huerter. Tyler Herro was the fake white chocolate, Reaves is the real one

Chet is gonna be amazing for the 15-20 games he's healthy for this season.

I saw Chembanyama in person last night. Chet is great and my friend. Very excited to see him and Shai play off each other.

I still can't wrap my mind around Wembanyama. He's so huge, looked almost an entire head taller than Chet. He looks fake. Did multiple Stretch Armstrong rear end things defensively in his ~20 minutes that I don't think anyone else could do. Even watching him struggle to put back on his warmup shirt was fascinating.

Yeah Chet is the type of guy I would expect to be a generational talent but happens to be starting his career at the same time as a likely multi-generational talent. Sucks for him

In the near future any big man who can't hit a 3 or pass the ball will probably be significantly below average. Guys like Ayton who play inside the paint are becoming more and more obsolete and everyone will need to have the kind of career overhaul that Brook Lopez had

why would he mean that

I feel like Horford was more of a midrange shooter before he became a 3 point sniper whereas Lopez much more of an interior player

wow. you gotta fire that guy and do an extension right

do they ever rework contracts in the NBA like the NFL does? I can't think of any examples of it happening off the top of my head, probably because everything is guaranteed so "help us fit under the cap or we'll cut you" isn't a good bargaining position

I am still very new to basketball so I don't understand why these are impressive.

I am guessing not many people are tall enough to receive a lob pass when starting from the 3 point line, then the second one is about general strength/ athleticism?

The first clip also shows really good decision making to set the play up while he's still a long way from the basket.

The fast dribbling and changes of direction he uses in the second clip to get his defender off-balance enough to get enough space to set up and shoot are the kind of skills that big men usually don't have the coordination and speed to be good at

He can also dribble and move like that while being several inches taller than Shaq

For comparison, the star at the closest height to him when Shaq was a star was Yao Ming who was famously slow and floorbound

God drat Shams is making bank.

https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/shams-charania-nba-insider-the-athletic-new-york-times-profile.html

quote:

She didn’t mention Charania by name, but it was clear whom she meant. Last year, Charania became a FanDuel partner, appearing on its cable network and posting about the company’s sportsbook on social media. The Times wanted to keep Charania from leaving for another job, but according to multiple people with knowledge of his contract negotiations, it couldn’t afford the going rate for his services. In addition to offering Charania more than $600,000 a year — significantly more than the paper’s top reporters make — the Times allowed him to take on the side deals with both Stadium and FanDuel. (His total compensation from various sources is now well into seven figures; neither Charania nor the Times would discuss his pay.) “The blow to our collective integrity is real,” Bazelon wrote. “It’s deeply unsettling to many of us and just not worth it.”

Also lmfao at this.

quote:

While Wojnarowski, who is 54, worked his way up the newspaper-reporting circuit before pivoting much of his energy to Twitter, Charania is a pure creation of the turbulent past decade in sports media. He has never known reporting without iPhones and DMs and is far more famous for his constant tweeting than for any story he has ever published, in part because his writing is so notoriously clunky that the sports website Defector named an annual award for inscrutable prose after him. In addition to his work for The Athletic, his résumé is a laundry list of modern-media arrangements his predecessors could never have imagined: He has side gigs with FanDuel, a sports-gambling company; Stadium, a digital-video network owned by the owner of the Chicago Bulls; and AT&T, for whom he films commercials about how much he uses his phone.
