ASK ME ABOUT MY AP WIRE PHOTOS
I'm going with landscape here since it doesn't really fit anywhere else...(ignore the weird artifacts that happen on the 500px thumbnails that happen for some reason)

I like how you made the long exposure work here, but man, those highlights.. Why not to use a grad ND filter for the upper part?

I may have a darker exposure for the sky, would have to check, at least on my monitor (calibrated a few weeks ago) it looks pretty good.

Made the sky a bit darker in this version, any better?

Definitely an improvement. What if you brought up the shadows in the clouds quite a bit. The dark in the clouds changes the focus to them.

We may have years, we may have hours, but sooner or later we push up flowers.

I once saw a tip in a magazine which suggested using multiple exposures. Like, a lot - 50 to 100. Then when you combine them you get a mix between the smoothness of a single long-exposure with the water-drop detail of much shorter exposures. I remember it looked pretty good and was a nice change from the typical boring long-exposure shots.

Disclaimer: I've never actually done this.

I'm going to assume that whoever is doing this is eating a whole shitload of drugs beforehand because otherwise it sounds like the worst possible way to enjoy a waterfall.

Gone with that, thanks for opinions!

As for waterfalls I think it is a personal choice on what you want to capture. I tend to prefer a long exposure but that is more of a personal preference. It also depends on the situation and what you are trying to show. I am not sure on combing both fast and long shutter speeds when it comes to the water, seems like a lot of work for something that is going to look heavily edited likely but I won't pass too much judgement until I see an example...

Why wouldn't you just take one long exposure and take a few fast exposures, maybe with a higher iso to get that shutter speed high, and make a simple composite. seems like a lot less effort with the same effect. I doubt you need 50-100 shots and creating a proper HDR is needed.

So many nice mountains and rivers and nature and stuff, so here's a carpark for balance.

I feel myself getting lost in there. Each one has its own feeling, but they all have _depth_.

This is really nice. I love that serpentine.

I went to Rio, but didn't bring a tripod.

I'm back, and I definitely did not do this.

I can't say I'm too happy with how the pictures turned out. In all the hubbub and excitement I thought the pictures looked decent enough (on the camera's LCD). But now that I'm home I'm seeing so many things I could have at least tried to do better.

Oh well, hopefully I'll have more chances in the future. In the meantime, does anyone have tips on how to post-process these? I did what I could but I'm wondering if anyone has another take.

I actually kind of dig this. Maybe it seems a little underexposed in the shadows? The grass on the bottom right could probably be brought up a little instead of the dead space. I dig the composition of it though..

I like the colors and tighter crop makes a stronger composition, but the radial blur is kind of distracting. I'd prefer it to all be sharp.
