I'm happy to see indie sports games. It's a genre that is often still dominated by big releases.

I like this one a lot. It's a mix of visual novel, the scenes in an RPG where you walk around a town and talk to people, and something like Firewatch. It feels kind of like watching a season of anime. All the different pieces are put together pretty well, it does the Nier genre change thing quite a bit and it works, and everything feels good. Once you get used to the visuals it has a lot of stuff that looks really really good.

It's really ambitious, and it coheres remarkably well for how much it's trying to do. Not every chapter is as good as the rest, but it starts and ends strong and nothing is too out of place. Ab.ut 10h too, which is long for this kind of thing.

So yeah, if any of that sounds cool give it a try.

It does!
I've got a super busy week, but I'll check it out this weekend.

It's kind of like that one Crypt of the NecroDancer character that doesn't have to follow the beat being turned into a whole game, but with having to manage weapons based on the directional keys added into the mix.

this game is pretty great. it reminds me a lot of Super Smash Brothers Melee's adventure mode, with typical metroidvania exploration being broken up by free for all arena battles against other peter clones. the combat is weird and imprecise and floaty but when there's six peters running around it works on the spectacle of all these guys running around and bouncing off each other and flying into the air.

the platforming is fairly unforgiving and there are sections with instant death spikes that took me a while to get past, but save points are frequent enough that i'm still enjoying the exploration.

I didn't see it posted, but V: Rising just released out of EA on May 8th into 1.0. It's a top down survival action game made by Stunlock, who previously made the very good, skill-based MOBA Battlerite. It is a little bit like if you took the high-level gameplay loop of Valheim, based the moment-to-moment gameplay and combat of Battlerite, and then also stuck in some optional Rust-style PvP. I have not played it since it launched out of EA, but enjoyed it pretty well when I played it previously, and by all accounts 1.0 is better. It definitely succeeds at making its combat a lot more engaging than similar games.

Hey nice! I’ll have to loop back to it as well.

I’d describe it as a little more Elder Scrolls than Kings Field (Lunacid which itself I’d call a first person Castlevania because of your insane movement).

Levels are milestone/quest/exploration based as opposed to murder based. I really enjoyed the writing, lore and setting of the half(?) I’ve played so far.

V Rising is very good— my one qualm with it is that I’d really like just one more skill slot. Combat feels good otherwise, base building is easy and intuitive with a bunch of suitably vampire-y decorations, and there’s a degree of planning your more difficult hunts around time of day; it’s way harder to hunt V Bloods when you have to stick to shade so you don’t burst into flame in the sunlight. :v:

They also paid Konami the presumed five dollars they want for licensing anymore so Simon Belmont is a boss in the base game and there’s a bundle of Castlevania-themed cosmetics/decorations for your castle, which is just perfect.

Well that blows

I kinda love Homeworld 3. I'll agree that the campaign is way too short, and I have some criticisms about the story. But the moment to moment RTS action is really fun, I really hope to see more space RTS games in true 3D, and the maps and graphics look amazing. Haven't quite finished, I think I'm on the last level, but I may do the campaign again on Hard as I didn't have many issues, besides flubbing one level a bit by getting impatient, on Medium.

Cryptmaster is awesome. I played through and beat it (even though I missed some secret stuff). If there's an issue it's that each character has 90+ skills/pieces of history to unlock and unless you're amazing at the wheel of fortune game you play to unlock them you're going to wind up with less than half of them unlocked by the end of the game.
