Them boys in Currents dropped a new video alongside their new EP, I Let The Devil In (5 songs, plus instrumental versions of each), and it bangs. I haven't finished the EP just yet, but I'm really digging it.

EDIT: whole album rips

Side note: I really like when -core bands also release instrumental versions of their tracks.

I got around to listening to this EP and gently caress me it's so good. Don't pass this up

I had Currents confused with another band when I saw the original post and skipped the video but holy poo poo Kumba is right. This EP rips.

I don’t mean to sound bitter, cold, or cruel. But I am, so that’s how it comes out.
Another hellish year is in the books. A gang of great metal releases dropped while the world burned some more. Here's my list. Hard choices were made, but I'll stand by them as I always do.

Album of the Year

I don't expect to have a ton of support for this pick in this thread, but this thing was made for me. Extremely bittersweet that they went on to call it quits later this same year. But their catalog won't be erased, and maybe Brand of Sacrifice will be great (most of the same dudes).

Beelz’ Top 10 Albums of 2018
  1. The Afterimage – Eve (5/18)
  2. Greyhaven – Empty Black (3/16)
  3. Earthists. – Lifebinder (8/17)
  4. Unearth – Extinction(s) (11/23)
  5. The Parallel – Weaver (12/07)
  6. Architects – Holy Hell (11/09)
  7. Napoleon – Epiphany (11/02)
  8. Polyphia – New Levels New Devils (10/12)
  9. Eternal Void – Catharsis (3/02)
  10. Shields – Life in Exile (4/20)
Not doing a top ten songs this year. But I do want to highlight one absolute banger that I couldn't justify the full release for my list, and that's Carnage by The Browning off their 10/26 release, Geist. Evidently that was my most played song on Apple Music, and with good reason. Un-break-uh-bulllll

A couple other notes:

First, I'm sad that ERRA's Neon isn't on this list. It's probably #11. But to be honest it was a pretty big disappointment for me in the end. Drift was my #1 of 2016, and Augment is probably on my lifetime top ten. But after returning to Neon a few different times throughout the year, I ultimately never could get fully into it. I think it's just a little too by-the-numbers to command attention.

Second, I'm not sure how many of you guys are also into post-hardcore, but it had a year. Highlights for me included Dance Gavin Dance – Artificial Selection (6/08), Dwellings – Lavender Town (6/29), .hopesfall. – Arbiter (7/13), and Hail the Sun – Mental Knife (9/28).

PORKCHOP SANDWICHES
I don't really buy enough new music to bother ordering or anything, but here's the things I've been rocking that came out:

Pig Destroyer - Head Cage
Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name
Black Matter Device - Modern Frenetics
Delta Sleep - Ghost City (the only non-metal thing on my list)
Vein - Errorzone
Frontierer - Unloved
Plasticbag Facemask - How to Kill a Dead Franchise
Time Bomb - Unforgivable

And I totally forgot that we had two BTBAM releases (even though it really does feel like they split a single long cd into 2 to fill contract obligations or something): Automata I & II. Huh. Guess it didn't make much of an impression.

Comedy option (both literally and tongue-in-cheek?): Froggy Fresh - Escape From Hood Mountain

5. Greyhaven - Empty Black
6. Cult Leader - A Patient Man
7. Rolo Tomassi - Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It
8. Turnstile - Time & Space
9. Harm's Way - Posthuman
10. Baptists - Beacon of Faith

way more good albums that are definitely up there like King Nine - Death Rattle, Sectioned - Annihilated, Mammoth Grinder - Cosmic Crypt etc

Infant Annihilator rules

Johari writes some really atmospheric metal, this is their album Pale Blue w/ no vox (w/ vox is better but..)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbr_JG8dKdk

God Forbid is one of my all-time favorites and this instrumental track is so loving metal. probably my favorite song on this list

they know how to write a catchy chorus that's for sure, that poo poo is infectious

their old material wasn't very good anyway, i'm glad they went this direction. their last one was the best album they've done imo

looking forward to this one though the pendulum may actually have swung too far in the pop direction this time

listening to the new BMTH on Spotify a bunch kept resulting in music by Dance Gavin Dance playing right after. turns out their album from last year Artificial Selection is loving hot poo poo and I've been jamming it a bunch. 10-years-ago me would be so sad to know about my current listening habits but he can go gently caress himself

i told myself i would try to be less negative in this thread but my goodness thy art is murder is one of the most boring bands i can think of. shame because Reign of Darkness came clobbering into the deathcore scene like a mallet wrapped in barbed wire with spikes coming out of it. the band can write good breakdowns but overall their production feels so loving milquetoast and there's no balls to anything whatsoever. lump them in with fit for an autopsy and whitechapel for "death metal" i couldn't give a gently caress less about.
