Killsion posted:I'm sure my tastes differ from yours, but of that list I'd certainly recommend Sigur Ros, Warpaint, Savages, and you already mentioned Bo Ningen. I like all the headliners on the main stage quite a bit and would go see Jens Lekman if only I hadn't seen him last year and Bo Ningen are on at the same time - I think most of the earlier bands are a bit too similar to really tell them apart. I like stuff a little more rock'n'roll like Merchandise, I very much dig the country stuff from America and can stick the twee stuff in small doses. Good music is good music, I suppose.

Allo Darlin' is quite cute since you are okay with twee. I'm not sure how they will work on a big stage though since they are a very small venue band. Frightened Rabbit (Scottish folk rock) gave a surprisingly good show when I saw them at a festival and was a lot of fun. Polica on the other hand really didn't work at all on the festival stage. I've heard a lot of good stuff about Daughn Gibson as a country act, but when I went to see him at a free show he never showed up.

I'm looking to albums/artists/dj's in the similiar genre as this album: http://open.spotify.com/album/0tmBuZkjQZski3luPJOR9d I've been having that album on in the background nonstop lately because I think it's just so incredibly chill to listen to. Any recommendations?

I had heard somewhere that the Police's "Every Breath You Take" was about the Cold War, but according to wikipedia, Sting "was thinking of Big Brother, surveillance and control," so that still kinda works.

Typical Cats and Blue Scholars are who I think of when jazzy hiphop is on the ticket. Shades of Blue is def a great suggestion. Don't neglect the old Anticon catalog if you're coming at hip hop from an e-music background. Not jazzy, per se, but a smooth transition from electronica to raps.

TBH I'm not sure I'd compare old anticon to anything EDM-related. Assuming you're talking about Jel and Alias' stuff (since they were the main producers), it's actually very based in more traditional rap stuff than people give credit for-very heavy boom-bap elements, lots of samples, etc. Wax Tailor is always someone I bring up in these discussions. Clutchy Hopkins may also be someone you'd like. Also Blockhead, although most of his stuff isn't quite as jazzy.

I've been going back and listening to some old KMFDM albums lately while I work, but while I like the music, I'm finding myself distracted by the fact that there are lyrics. Could someone recommend me something similarly industrial/heavy or even metal-ish that is instrumental? My usual go-to while working is power metal, but it's just not doing it for me the last couple days due to lyrical distraction.

This is vague, but can anybody think of rock music that has prominent pedal steel? I mean like "Breathe" by pink floyd and "prison food" by ben folds. I love the sound, but it seems like a rarity in rock.

I love the sound, but it seems like a rarity in rock. Going for the One by Yes is one that immediately springs to mind. Close to the Edge (the album and the song) has pedal steel all over it. You've also got a good chunk of Queens of the Stone Age (which is lap steel but still gets that soaring sound), George Harrison's song Behind that Locked Door, Grateful Dead's Sugar Magnolia (and lots of other things featuring Jerry Garcia, like Teach Your Children by Crosby, Stills, and Nash), and It Just Might be a One Shot Deal by Frank Zappa. If you're looking to get more into non-country pedal steel, you might want to look up sacred steel players like Robert Randolph, A.J. Ghent, and the Campbell Brothers. E: Pete Drake was a studio musician for a lot of rock records, but I'm pretty sure his solo stuff is mostly country-tinged. Declan MacManus fucked around with this message at 06:02 on Sep 3, 2013 |

Any recommendations for chill indie electro-pop (for lack of a better term) along the lines of Drive (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7g-9COLA3_k)? Pref with female vocals, pref Euro in origin. Something along the lines of Freezepop but with less bored, detached irony.

Anyone got any good recommendations for funk/disco bands? I'm talking stuff that's a little more broad and easily accessible for your average listener, as well as being bass heavy. As much as I the love parliament/funkadelic style, I'm looking for stuff that's a bit more immediate party, than psychedelic craziness. Some examples I've been listening to recently are t-connection, BT Express, Mandrill, Fatback band, The Gap Band and Slave, available on spotify is a big plus
