Why do Falcom games always look like they'd require far more processing power than they do? I looked up that game and 1 ghz is the recommended level. Same thing with the Ys games; they all look good and a toaster can play them.

Same thing with the Ys games; they all look good and a toaster can play them. You have to remember that all the Falcom games showing up on Steam are PC games from 2004-2006 which were designed to run on hardware that was old even by those standards. The Ys games on Steam use really simple shapes and good texture work to give off the impression that the environments are more complex than they actually are. In addition, all the character and enemies (aside from bosses) are all 2D sprites. The games were all simple enough that they could be put on PSP with relatively little downscaling, save for Origin (the bosses are too big and complex to be put on PSP). Add in Xseed doing a really good job of updating these games for Steam and you have a game that can run on just about anything. As for Gurumin, it seems the camera is fairly zoomed in, so I doubt there's all that much stuff on screen at one time. I'm interested to see what Gurumin is all about, even though all I know about it is that it features a pretty sweet remix of "To Make The End of Battle." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKOJQNi_Vng

Today I learned that Steam doesn't let people release games on Saturday. Apparently. Fun fact: sales of this game go toward funding the Wolfenstein 3D source port that's running it, ECWolf. There are plans to add in other games, too, like Rise of the Triad (at some point). Maybe the Catacombs series, too, I dunno. So, y'know, if you're a fan of that part of id's library that was sandwiched in-between Commander Keen and Doom, that's not a bad deal.

It's worth noting that Gurumin is apparently going to be uncensored. Because, uh, the original PC release has underage nudity and panty flashes apparently, according to one of the discussions on the greenlight page at least. Which the PSP version censored out I guess, but not this one, since it's a straight port of the original Japan-only PC version. So, uh, yeah. Dammit, Falcom. Also holy poo poo, that thread got awful fast. quote:
quote:My post was, in fact, absolutely serious. Honestly, it should not be controversial to say "hey this game looks cool and I liked the developer's other works, but if there really is underage nudity and underwear-flashing in there then I can't support it" quote:Something Awful Goon Pls go Ed: Alright, so apparently it isn't nearly as bad as these guys make it seem. The "happy mode" stuff is an alternate script, and during healing the main character is completely surrounded by a white light, so you don't see anything (which is what I suppose they meant by "magical-girl style nudity"). Not something that should be in the game, but nothing all the objectionable, either. Lance Streetman fucked around with this message at 02:56 on Jul 19, 2014 |

Yeah, Nelly Cootalot is probably going to be quite good. I missed the chance to back it when it was on Kickstarter but I'm totally voting for it. Also here's another potentially cool game, Verde Station. It's going to be an exploration and narrative focused game like Gone Home set in space. I was disappointed that the similar idea that one guy had in Double Fine's Amnesia Fortnight fell through so hopefully this ends up being good.

So this is up for Greenlight: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=324336935 Hazewalker is going to be a Metroidvania-type game, and it looks pretty interesting, although there's still work to be done. One of the guys working on it is Chesko, who made Frostfall and some other really good Skyrim mods. He also previously did some development work on War for the Overworld, although he's since moved on. I think he's also a goon, although damned if I know his username or whether he even posts. A Kickstarter will be going live tomorrow. More stuff here: http://www.hazewalker.com/
