I dunno, something about FFVIII's soundtrack just feels right with the midi synthesizers. That's a fine remix, but it doesn't feel like the same song at all. The orchestral mix makes it seem like an upbeat flighty song, and not a very good battle theme. That said, there are some really good remixes of the background music.

Well I don't have a 3DS and I'm not likely to get one unless I can order that kit that makes them playable on TVs/monitors. I was thinking of doing that anyway because some people were telling me how good SMTIV is.

Reiterpallasch posted:i was there and i still can't hear the ron paul lyrics It's kind of wrapped up in flowery language and unorthodox sentence structure, and what happened is really only implied by the lyrics: So still this broken melody, And therewith shoulder thee One last step, only leaving An empty hearth down by the sea. Kill your mom (the broken melody) and then take one more step over the cliff to kill yourself. The first half of the song gives it a lot more context though.

Since FF15 is out and apparently good I want to make it feel better about its project management mishaps by reminding the world that XCX wrapped its soundtrack production without any no-vocals mixes so important story cutscenes have cheesey music lyrics drowning out in game dialog.

XCX had a lot of needless complexity. Sure I get that you can spend a bunch of time to set up lots of augments and soul voices in a symbiotic way to toggle murdergod mode but goddamn, it'd be nice if you'd make large enemies, including a late/end game boss, not just send you flying like a field goal attempt because they got close to you. People who did skell combat fights on foot are weird and if it wasn't for the "you get sent flying by large enemy movement (and can do the same to small enemies with your skell)" then I could at least see the appeal due to its challenge. Skell combat was pretty broken in general though. I think it took more time to go from 28-30 than it took to go from 30-40 because you go buy an Amadusias and just back attack beam scythe enemies a dozen levels above you and then finish them off a couple seconds later. It was a good game but XC was better in just about every way. Especially the music. And the Nopon. World Tyrants having co-op is the biggest tease though. The next game just needs to allow co-op, either a drop in/out setup along the lines of games like Crackdown and Saint's Row or a more party structured freeform system like in Dragon Quest 9 and the leader can light up their bat signal when they need you to stop doing whatever you're doing and help them.

I liked Xenogears quite a bit, but never could get into Xenoblade really- the gameplay and characters just didn't seem engaging to me. Since I'm liking FF15 a lot I should probably go back and try Xenoblade again at some point. Might click with me this time. Never tried Xenosaga or the Wii U game.
