At least the ones with bad first names have useable middle names.

My best friend linked me to the BabyCenter names forum (where that screenshot is from) as a joke since I'm currently thinking up names for my own baby and they are a rich source of "why do you hate your child?" names. My favourite so far is the woman whose daughters are named Ophelia and Antigone. Names that say "I don't actually like to read, but I like people to think that I do!" She's trying to name number three now, presumably choosing between Electra and Jocasta.

A little girl named "Ceili." When I pronounced it "Sealy," she got annoyed. Hey, kid, sorry your folks decided "gently caress the English spelling system as we bestow our child's name" Kylie ( i may have actually tried "Saily" but point still stands. girl's in for a lifetime of correcting people)

My guess was a weird spelling of Ceilidh (Kaylee), which is a relatively normal name in Nova Scotia where I'm from, but apparently not. (We have a lot of Gaelic/Irish names like Mairi and Aisling and Niamh floating around). Kylie makes no sense by any metric, though.

I think the dh at the end would have helped me see it as a Gaelic name and I would have known to pronounce the C as K. And it might atually have been pronounced Kaylie, man this story sucks a lot. Either way I was not going to pronounce that right as-is off the bat.

If it's pronounced Kaylee it's a new one on me! A lot of Gaelic/Irish names get spelled the traditional way but pronounced as they would be read in English here (like Caitlin being said Kate-lynn or Mairi being said Mary), or of course there are names that are pronounced the traditional way but spelled the English way (Kaylee, Neve), but I've never seen a "creative spelling" based on a Gaelic or Irish name as it's originally spelled.
