My UO is that souls games would be better if they had an easy mode for us normies.

This is a UO I share because of how I play RPGs. I do an easy mode run for my first playthrough so I can really enjoy the world, story, character designs, music and naturally familiarize myself with the controls and combat system. Second time around I'll happily do my nightmare run, and I'll have the muscle memory to ease the fluidity of my controls so I can focus on trying to read opponents and situations. Which is the attraction of Souls games.

There's a lot of reasons that Souls games should be hard, and most of them sound pretty snobby on paper but make sense once you've spent time with them. Putting all that aside I still don't think it would work with an easy mode. You'd just burn through the game and most of what makes them engaging would be lost.

Plus they do have an easy mode, it's co-op play.

"Tiny Trains"

Learn languages for places you want to go to visit or work or live. When you don't have an actual "reason" to learn a language it's super hard to stay motivated without a practical goal in the end. It's also really hard to learn a language if you don't have native speakers you can chat with on the regular.

I think it's a bit unfair that the rest of the world shits on north americans for generally being unilingual, we just don't have a reason that forces us to learn other languages. Most of the rest of the world is densely populated with a variety of languages, where you can just travel a few hundred km in any direction and be in another country or another language region so it's super important to speak a few, you're forced into it just to get poo poo done. In the US/Canada (outside of quebec) there's no reason economic reason that forces people to learn another language. You can get by with just english and huge swaths of the country are rarely exposed to other languages let alone large groups that don't speak any english.

Like if you're in business in France you can probably get by just speaking french, but it means you can't deal with german customers or Italian customers. Through exposure and need you're really often forced to pick up at least some basics in another language or two. Often that 2nd language is english, so the German and the Italian and the Czech and the Spaniard can all teleconference in English rather than everyone having to learn 4 other languages. This though just further spoils native english speakers, why learn another language when everyone else sees to be learning english as the common international language?

Is it a popular opinion that German sounds angry though or is that just my facebook feed? Re that video of a guy saying words in a bunch of languages and yelling when he gets to the German word
It's a pretty common joke, but people who make it always yell the German words they're saying angrily, becaue it turns out that it doesn't actually sound that way when you just speak it normally.

PHUO: French is not a pretty language. It's full of awful throat noises and sounds terrible.

I think languages are one of those things that it's perfectly fine to just learn for no reason. It can be fun and while you might rarely need it, it does open up the possibility of talking to millions of people you couldn't talk to before. Plus even though you can get around Germany easy enough with only english, it's different/more enjoyable if you aren't isolated in a little tourist bubble.

If you have the time and like a challenge there's really no reason not to.
Why German though? Like, why not Arabic or Cantonese or something?

Why not? Like I said in the very thing you quoted, you don't need a practical reason like "this language will make me more money". Maybe you like germans and want to talk to them. Maybe you want to work there. Maybe you just feel like it.

Let's be real here, Germany is a much more enjoyable place to visit than Arabia or China.

Language purism is dumb, the only important thing in a language is that meaning is conveyed
That one is unpopular for sure. If the French language had been kept pure it would be Latin (or proto latin or PIE or whatever)

Counterpoint: Religious people are generally good in reverse correlation to how seriously they take their faith.

My unpopular opinion is that Christianity and Islam are both equally bad and both have followers who are shitheads with blood on their hands. Muslim bans are dumb and racist because why single out Islam??? Or people of Middle Eastern background?? Muslims no worse than Christians, on the whole. No better than Christians, either, though. That's where shrieking SJWs get it wrong. They stick up for Muslims, which is good, but then go overboard and are like "Islam is feminist! The hijab is feminist!" and it's like "LOL no it aint". But Muslims arent any different from Christians, good or bad. Both are patriarchal superstitions.

They are both bad but not equally bad. Islam is clearly worse. Muslims revere a pedophile war monger. On the other hand, everyone can agree Jesus is just some peaceful dude for the most part. Christians don't really have to do anything to apostates. Muslim majority countries actively say it's a crime punishable by death. Islam is far worse.

Christians don't actually care what Jesus did or said though, otherwise they'd actually give many shits about the poor.

You people realise that most religions will self segregate into different denominations for your convenience in telling their views apart? And that even within that there night be... disagreements?

And that some people might not be public with their disagreement or might not care either way? So what on earth does 'Christian' mean as a global political force, beyond smug generalisations from the local Young Socialists meeting?

But no we must have clear categories of good and bad or my pulse rate rises :spergin:

Also because I have a better grasp of theology, just from studying late Roman history, than they do from a lifetime of '''''faith'''''.
