Drawing became a lot less magic and made a lot more sense when I realized it's partly learning techniques to do different things instead of just weaving it out of thin air. Still can't draw though.

The overall point is that the chase for profit tends to push fiction towards similar tropes. You can rationalize how these overdone tropes I like are good while the ones I don’t are bad but that misses the point It doesn’t actually apply to anime but that’s because anime is a catch all term for a lot of different poo poo

"Most [ ] is pretty formulaic and just sticks to tropes, not bothering to explore any new ideas or take risks. Occasionally something really good will come out of it though." You'll notice that "anime" fits in the blank here, but so does literally every form of media. Try "cop shows," "superhero movies," "romance novels," etc. it just feels easier to bash anime because there's only a limited amount of it being made and by an incredibly small number of people, so it's totally possible for someone to have not only heard of but also have seen every single new anime produced each year, as opposed to books or something where you could never possibly hope to read even a fraction of the world's books RazzleDazzleHour fucked around with this message at 00:10 on Jul 11, 2019 |

Also there's a significant difference between "anime" art style and associated media, vs the endless deluge of shovelware steam games with the "anime" tag, vs the "anime is (intrinsically) bad" internet meme, etc. It isn't always immediately apparent which one someone is referring to.

It's rare for something to get the 'adults only' notation just for violence/gore so that checkbox basically only toggles porn.

Animenus. Also you can specifically filter out anything that includes "sexual content" so unless you're picky about your porno you can turn it off if it's annoying you.

Yeah their algorithms always throw in stuff because "It's popular" or "Just to see if you'll like it". The net result is that everyone's queue pretty much looks the same regardless of preferences. hexwren posted:Doesn't that also inevitably filter out mainstream games that include sexual content, like Bioware or CD Projekt stuff? I don't think so. It makes a distinction between Adults Only and Sexual Content. I'm going to try turning on the Adults Only filter and see how it goes - I didn't' really want to before because I always wanted a complete picture of what's on Steam, but I think I'm going to test it out. I didn't major in fanfiction so what is the author actually trying to say, in simple words
|
# ? Jul 15, 2019 02:48 |

I'll give it a try: There's a distinction to be made between consenting to something vs. actually wanting it. You can not want a thing, but consent to it anyway (for instance, because somebody has power over you); on the other hand, you can want something, but feel like you can't say so. The author is claiming that erotic fanfiction lets people safely explore, learn, and argue about this distinction, because it's easier to talk about it when it involves Spock turning into a sex werewolf and having to marry Sephiroth. I don't feel I have a right to comment, but maybe I should be writing my dissertation over the contents of this thread instead of category theory. Somehow I don't think the game in question was created by an uncertain, sheltered young lady exploring and questioning the norms and taboos of her society. megane fucked around with this message at 03:56 on Jul 15, 2019 |
