Well my stuff arrived today! I have in my possession the Burj Kalifa and the Grand Emporium. Just finished the BK, took me 15 min, and I'm fairly disappointed with it. The built is uninteresting (just columns of round bricks), and the final model doesn't look much like the real BK (it seems to be missing a set of balconies. Never mind, the GE looks fun to build. Time to get cracking! Argh the manuals for my GE are all hosed. I thought Lego now mounted instructions on card to stop poo poo like mangled manuals happening. Finished the first floor on the Grand Emporium. It's an interesting build so far for the most part, with only one repetitive annoying part. Some very nice build techniques (for example the shop sign, the revolving door and the escalator), and they have addressed some of the annoyances seen in the other modulars such as a big circular splodge in the middle of glass pieces due to the injection point. There are now 4 tiny blobs, one in each corner and a lego stamp at the bottom. It looks much better. Oh and the baseplate is one piece now, which gets around the joining of two green, which was kinda unstable. I also like the large glass windows which really allow you to see the interior. Speaking of interior, I've been rebuilding cafe corner, and they really cut corners (see what i did there) by not giving it some interior. Green baseplate looks poo poo.

No, I got that, it's the part in red: That's confusing me. Souldn't those intersect there? The back end is flat vertical so it shouldn't make it under the sloped edge I mean, it obviously works it just looks like it shouldn't
|
# ? Jan 11, 2012 19:10 |
|
Oh I see where you're confused. The underside of the sloped edge is open, like a roof or awning. It's not solid like an inverted slope. If I can find a picture I'll post it. Here we go, this picture shows the underside of those pieces pretty well: InfinEight fucked around with this message at 19:20 on Jan 11, 2012 |

I really wish I had known how much my LEGO tank was going to cost before I started ordering parts. It adds up so fast, and then with shipping ... I was ok with ~$80. As I got close to the end and saw that it was going to be over that with the last few pieces, I was ok with the ~$100 it would cost. Now, the final tally is in. $130. gently caress. I wouldn't have done it if I had known. Oh well, at least I get a sweet-rear end tank. I would have rather bought the 8461 Williams F1 Team Racer.

^Such is the life of a Bricklink purchaser. I made my two cousins little boxes with minifigs inside for Christmas. Expected the cost to come to $40 or so for both. Three separate Bricklink orders later theres -$82 in my account. It's so so easy to go overbudget, especially because you never really know the postage cost until you have picked all the parts.

Finished the Grand Emporium. The second and third floors are sould destroying to build, way to much repititon. The chandelier on the third floor is nice though, as is the skylight and sign on the roof. gently caress the rest with it's "x19" bits though. Now I need the pet shop, and market to complete the set

I swear I live near the most ghetto toys r us in the world. I stopped by tonight to look for anything. The shelves are like completely empty, there was maybe 10 or so different Lego sets, mostly star wars, and that's it. No Friends/Super Hero/Technic nothing! Argh, I'm still waiting for them to get some more nano blocks in too, none of those either.

I've got this on my desk. Holds well enough until you start messing with it. The tolerances aren't as tight so clutching power varies between bricks. Instructions are tiny and hard to interpret sometimes. Amazon has sets pretty cheap. For a little 8 dollar piece of flair for my desk they are cool.

Hey does anyone have any thoughts on buying from Bricklink vs. the Lego store? I'm shopping for the MMV and calculated the following: I can get it from Europe via BL its 145$ shipped, from Canada for 172$ (I live in Canada), from the states for 165$ or from Lego for 170$. Even with the Lego VIP points, it still comes down to the equivalent of 161$, so it's still cheaper to get from Europe. I'm guessing if I brought it in from Europe or the states I'll probably get burned with customs fees anyways?

The exterior of the Town Hall is a little plain, and it would have been cool to maybe sacrifice some of the horizontal length to maybe have a little square or fountain or something in front, just to visually separate it from the rest of the street. However, the minifigs and interior look great and really characterful.

It's retailing there at 800 lei (approx 155 British Pounds), what's the estimated price of the set going to be at the official launch? Just trying to figure out if I'll be better getting one from the UK in march (if it's like 120 gbp) or splurging out and getting it today. Edit: gently caress it, it looks like it's going to be pricier anyway due to the piece count....sooooo I'm going to have a busy evening tonight. If you're in the UK, it might be worth checking out your local Sainsburys. Just been in mine and they're selling series 6 minifigs at half price (£1). I don't know whether it's the same in other stores, but if you collect minifigs, then it could be worth taking a look. Also, this thread caused me to spend nearly £200 on Lego over the Christmas holiday. My wallet hates you all for that, but I couldn't be happier.

Went to our local Lego Discovery Center on my kid's birthday yesterday. It's rubbish but we have annual passes and he likes it for an hour or two. He had some money from his grandfather to spend on a present so I asked him if he wanted to get something from the shop. Despite having a good selection it's not an official Lego Store, which is a shame because it never gets their promotions and stuff and there isn't one near us. They were just putting their new stock in and it was sad to see so many lines with "last chance to buy" marked on them. None of them were discounted though, which kind of sucks, but at least it helped me resist the temptation. Anyway... a whole massive Lego store to chose from with new superheroes and dinosaurs and Star Wars and he chose a £6 (well £5.40 with our 10% discount) Ninjago set I told him he could get something else or something bigger and he was happy with that. Built it at home and it was actually a fun little play set: Some kind of snake infested cave with jumping snakes. drat good value compared to the licensed stuff as well. On the way to daycare today he told me he had changed his mind and he wanted something else as well. I swear Ninjago is like little-boy-crack. So we're going to stop off on the way home and try and find something he likes with "the red ninja" in it. I also suggested we get a baseplate and use parts from Prince of Persia set to make lots more traps for the ninja on the weekend. He suggested that the mummies (from a couple of Phaoroh's Quest sets) should be in charge of the traps and if the ninjas get past the traps they would have to fight them. So much of this thread is focused on AFOL stuff and collecting and the big exclusive sets that sometimes it's nice to be reminded how much Lego just plain loving owns as a toy. Edit: http://shop.lego.com/en-GB/Venomari-Shrine-9440 This is the set we got. We all complain about Lego being expensive but I thought this was actually really good value for money as a toy. More bang for your buck than most action figure based stuff. Hoping TRU has Kai's Blade Cycle in stock as that seems to be my best Red Ninja bet.
