These guys are active more now. Oh hello new victims! Just sitting here with a slight fuel hiccup (to much in Singapore, not enough everywhere else) waiting for the Allies to do something more than invade Luganville. Its okay though, because its graph time. I know how much you all love some graphs. The difference in scores has grown slightly this month, by 1000 points, putting me 18554 in the lead. That change has not come from conquests, as we enter another month with no major advances on either side. This graph has always been a mess – they fluctuate so much! Aircraft losses continue to run high, but below AI loss levels. My soldiers have had a good time this war. Allied ship losses are high and have now surpassed even what I lost in the last campaign – and there can be no more damming statement than that. 46 ships sunk or confirmed sunk this month.

Not the fastest boat, but a capacity of >1000 troops unloading at max speed makes it a bit of a shitter.

Pickled Tink posted:Nah, they are coming from Tarawa it looks like. The allies get a total of 30 Marine DB and TB squadrons and 38 fighter squadrons, so they can turn any island into an unsinkable carrier, AND make it hard to know if you're hit by land based or carrier air since they all fly the same types. Except for the F4U-1 Corsairs we see in this pic, as they're not carrier capable, so they can indeed only come from Tarawa. They'll upgrade to F4U-1As that ARE carrier capable soon enough.

More victims hit the beaches. They bring in fighter support again today. I may have to give up on fighter defence here – it's costing me to many planes. I'm just showing this for the craziness of it. I need to attack at Luganville – right after I've pulled all my planes out!

2 June 1943 Italian torpedo boat Castore, sank following damage by gunfire of RN destroyer Jervis and Greek destroyer Vasilissa Olga. Two merchant ships under escort also destroyed.

Owch! I'd forgotten about these guys. How can you lose planes? This is generally a poor showing. This is more like it. It's Kiwi killin' time! I think my poor quality air replacements are starting to show. Although we did a lot better in the end of day summary than the combat reports suggest.

Why is a force with 10-1 odds in numbers NOT walking over them in a day?

Took them most of the day to walk over there.

Ouch on the pilots. Are there ways to boost pilot training/experience in general or is this pretty common at this phase of the game ven when doing well?

Standard practice is to have a group of squadrons in Manchuria or the Home Islands that he has set to 100% Training on escort duty to train up their air skill to 70 before putting the fighter pilots on the front lines. Whether Grey is doing this or not I don't know.

Dammit! We smash into the enemy here. This is mainly to show some action. A Kill! This is more like the action I'm looking for! The Kiwi's are getting a bad lot in this war.

Yes, but it takes manually transferring pilots to different squadrons set for different training regimens and ends up taking as much time as the rest of playing the game.

Right. My holiday lodge lied about wifi, and I don't have doc's on my phone, so here is a link to the update. If someone could copy post it I'd be greatful. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1I5aydNU7tZoifgctRCuv9BAtoViwaA7QhNzMujxkF34/edit?usp=drivesdk

We lose a plane over China. We engage another force on a rail line. I have no idea what these guys are doing here. I'm not a fan of these guys. We are taking a few minor hits at the moment. We're not seeing as many of these this time around.

Ta! Currently listening to the wind and rain batter my lodge near battle. With no net I begin to come up with crazy lp ideas. I'm going to do a almost blind run of tank warfare tunisa. But I'm also thinking up a mad plan of running a mercenary game in black sea.... Grey Hunter fucked around with this message at 08:14 on Jun 6, 2017 |

So my carriers are minding their own business heading to Tokyo. And they just happen to run across a CVE. Poor unlucky sods. They get off a counter strike, but every Avenger is gunned down. Then we have these guys coming up from the south. The Chinese rout continues. Well, that was a nice surprise. Ha ha ha.

The Allies must still be feeling the loss of carrier pilots from last year if their newest carrier aircraft couldn't bring down a single Japanese plane.

Amazing. 24 naval bombers can't land more than a single hit against a pair of heavy cruisers, but the Americans have no trouble sniping merchant ships with heavy level bombers from 10,000ft+. Well, here's hoping we get them tomorrow.

Well, two engine dive bombers have to dodge AA while four engined level bombers can drop a hell of a lot more bombs and don't have to dodge anything. But yeah.

How bad was the BF110 really? I know in the original applications (twin engined bomber and twin engine fighter) it was really bad and then mediocre. But I heard it was a halfway decent nightfighter?

But I heard it was a halfway decent nightfighter? The Bf-110 was bad at being a fighter, mainly because it was used either as a dogfighter or as an escort fighter. Neither of these were its strengths; twin-engined fighters have horrible maneuverability in comparison. That being said, it was a useful design that, like the Ju-88, found other uses. It had all of its weapons mounted centrally, which made it easier to shoot/lead your target, and it could carry a variety of weapons and modifications to give it added range or, like you said, nightfighting capability. Around that time, nightfighters were still in their infancy, but the twin-engine design allowed it to carry the firepower necessary to eliminate bombers. The airframe could already accommodate 3 crew members which made incorporating radar easy.

pthighs posted:I seriously think there are some AI-assist shenanigans going on here - I've never seen the kind of level bombing success they have had routinely. From way upthread this was talked about, and the suspicion is that the game rolls the hit chance for every single bomb individually. With the large number of bombs those bombers are carrying, it artificially massively increases their chances to land hits.
