Portrait 2: Fran Being too high on sugar to notice, this silly girl has no idea that she is trained in the dark arts, and assumes that the enemies are simple rolling over to be petted instead of rolling in pain. Of course, being unaware of danger at any moment, she is extremely likely to be randomly killed by a monster's attack, as fragile casters tend to do. I wanted a character to be the complete opposite of how her class should act, so I went with 2, as it was the least edgy-looking face. It goes against the grain of audience participation, but I wouldn't mind if you made the Hexer to your liking since it's the last class we'll be seeing this game. It fits as a nice capstone of sorts, but barring that I'm going to have to vote for Koenig because even though hipsters are a little played out at this point, the idea of a hipster Hexer amuses me.

Portarait 1: Umbris He's as evil as they come, or at least that's what he'd like for you to think. He's actually got a real big soft spot for cuddly animals, but no it's clearly all part of his masterful plan to lull them into a false sense of security before sacrificing them to some dark God he probably didn't just make up on the spot or something. His actual name may or may not be Steve.

Looking forward to this, the 4th Stratum is my favorite stratum in the game, and if you had told me the Desert level would be the best before I started playing I'd have slapped you. It's just so chock full of "poo poo getting realness", even the regular battle theme gets in on the action. On that note, make sure you listen to the track for the stratum all the way through, it really kicks into gear after a minute or so.

Lemme throw my hat into this. Portrait 4: Nott A quite reclusive young woman who once hailed from a nomadic tribe. No one knew at the time but she bore talent in cursemaking that soon, unintentionally, destroyed her people. She was found wandering alone in the wastes before being rescued and properly schooled in her magic. Tends to only talk up when bad luck happens. Skill Focus: Evil Eye + Suicide, Leaden, Sapping, Fragile.

Heck, let's try it. Portrait 2: Sophita Born under a dark star, she was cursed with horrible fortune from her first day. Ultimately, in her search to rid herself of her bad luck she found a way to do the next best thing: magically collecting and foisting all her bad fortune on unsuspecting victims with hexes. Despite all the rough times, she's not black-hearted enough to do so on the undeserving, so she adventures as a way to find a convenient outlet (and to meet other people now that there's no worry of friends getting caught up in some disaster she caused). Incredibly laid-back since her discovery, she takes all manner of disappointments and bad turns in stride since she knows it's genuine bad luck and not a result of her curse anymore. After all, it could be worse, much much worse. She should know. Also has like five cats back home.

So, just to get this straight, anything you unlock in the shops, even consumable items, are permanently unlocked for purchase unless you say otherwise? That must have been a really big strawberry.

I can't remember how it is in 1 and 2, but in 3, for consumables you have to collect materials for each one you buy. In 4 you have to do this for everything including weapons and armor, which I guess makes the most sense.

Probably too late to be in the running, but what the heck. Portrait 2: Sallya The greatest Hexer to ever live with the power to turn all who stand before her into little more than doomed wretches who quail helplessly before her might!!! ...is what she wishes she could be. The truth of the matter is, she's too inexperienced with hexes (or much of anything else adventurer-ish really) to make them the soul shattering spells they should be and largely relies on "special brews" (really just foul smelling failed cooking experiments) to reach the intended effect. She also has pretty much zero brain-to-mouth filter as well as a fragile sense of self worth which can make for a rather trying (or hilarious) combination at times. Possible interactions with the other party members could include awkwardly latching on to the members who complement her or watch out for her and muttering impotent threats against the ones who are critical of her. Her concoctions could also be a possible conversation point (especially with Alvis) with her giving wildly inconsistent explanations and excuses for how and why they work (or don't work as the case may be). As for Skills, I think that focusing on debuffs is always a smart move for Atlus games and the binding Skills could be very useful, especially if she gets paired up with Richter. I'm not set on anything though. AccidentalHipster fucked around with this message at 16:36 on Aug 12, 2013 |

Glazius posted:So, just to get this straight, anything you unlock in the shops, even consumable items, are permanently unlocked for purchase unless you say otherwise? Indeed, yeah. I think the only items we have at present that require us to find a new item for each one are the two that have come from rare drops from late bosses (the Meteor Axe from Golem's conditional drop and the Hachi from Royalant's rare drop) - as far as I can remember, all consumables in this game come in unlimited quantities as soon as you find the items you need for just one. It's perhaps not the most sensible approach from a making-sense perspective, but it's fairly non-frustrating, at least. Having to go farm strawberries and ant honey whenever I needed more amrita IIs would probably get very annoying very fast. Anyway, character creation's been open for more or less a week, so I think now's a good enough time to close it, and just ask people to vote on... a few things, actually. First off, which of the new characters should we go with? For a convenient list and such: W.T. Fits posted:Koenig 'Totally not a vampire', eh? I'm sure he'd get on well with Richter. Currently sitting at a total of 3 votes, if I assume everyone would probably vote for their own character. thenightsshadow posted:Portrait 2 - Mistral Mistral would probably have me constantly songs from MGR:R while writing... that game is entirely too fun. 1 vote so far! Junpei Hyde posted:Portarait 1: Umbris For some reason, this guy reminds me of uh... what's his name, the hamster-loving ninja guy in the DR2 thread. A quick GIS later, and all I can't help but wonder what the hell happened to her outfit over the years. S'like she was constantly having strips of cloth cut from it in every game and never bothered replacing them. This probably isn't the right thread for that discussion, though. Sophita has one vote, too. Libluini posted:Portrait 1: Rasputin I think you already have a character! Isn't Dietrich yours? (or is my second post telling horrible, horrible lies?) Regardless, also sitting at one vote. AccidentalHipster posted:Probably too late to be in the running, but what the heck. Very nearly missed you! You're right, bind-based shenanigans can be great, and would give me a good reason to give Richter some points in Ecstasy. If I recall correctly, there's a certain moment quite a bit later where binds can be used to rather hilarious effect. (There's also a conditional drop in this stratum that relies on being able to bind an FOE, so Hexers are pretty good at that, at least!) Anyway, also has One vote. Congrats on getting in moments before I closed character creation! If I missed you, let me know! As a quick summary, the two people who have been most popular so far are Koenig and Fran - I'd be perfectly happy with either, both could have some amusing dialogue to write. I'm not opposed to anyone else suddenly coming up from behind and winning, though! So, the first thing to vote on - which of these hexers seems the most fun? - Whoever wins will be joining the party. Voting will be open pretty much until I really want to get back to playing EO, which could happen at any time! Still, I mentioned that there's more than one thing to vote on. The other thing - who should we explore the new stratum with? A stat/skill update for everyone, as well as a bit of a reminder about what they're about : Hector was our guild's founding member, and is something of a glory hog. Regularly brought to face-palming by his party members' antics, he still does his job, protecting everyone the best he can - even if most of his protection comes from getting hit because he's trying to hog all the glory from a fight. Jill is... going to be in the party, because I don't want to die. Stratum 4 is no place to dick about. Regardless, she's our party's healer, and is mostly fairly serious, personality-wise! Not overly fond of undead, so she's glad none have showed up, Richter seems to regularly get on her nerves. Up 'til recently, Dietrich was the party's king of physical damage. Now, he's merely relegated to being the king of multi-target physical damage. He's a German mercenary, lost in time and space... but keeps it largely to himself, so as to not appear nuts. Besides, the money and food are good in Etria, so why try to rush home? More interested in science and discovery than loot, Alvis is a bit of an oddball adventurer. Still, his power to blast everything with lightning makes him an invaluable ally! His ability to turn everything's blood to poison, on the other hand, is not super useful anymore. Keyser is a fantastic bard though writing for him can be hard he speaks mostly in verse and can be a touch terse but on the whole, he's a bit of a card. State of the art resource-gathering robots. Not actually characters, included here mostly for the sake of completion. When not arguing with Jill, Richter is tirelessly scouring the labyrinth for any trace of undead monsters, to whip to death. Sadly, vampire bats are the closest he's found thus far. Serasmus is a less specialised alchemist, capable of using fire and frost to great effect, but generally believes in having an adaptive approach to magic rather than setting his ways in stone. He's generally kind of bitter and cynical, and is generally less-than amused by the rest of the party. Alex snuck into the party in order to make cash, and it's all coming up pretty great so far. She's also convinced me that survivalists were a lot better than I thought, so yay. Musashi is a possibly slightly senile swordsman, full of strange stories from his homeland. Due to this game having an odd sense of balance and loot timing, he currently has the third most powerful katana in the entire game, and deals ridiculous amounts of damage. Anyway, with that reminder out of the way, feel free to vote for whichever 3 members you'd like to see go into the next stratum! Jill and Whichever hexer wins will definitely be party members, so when voting, bear in mind that 2 out of 3 back-row slots are already taken.

Alright, so! Coursework is done, for better or for worse, so now I have no excuse. Time to tot up the votes! Unless I'm mis-counting, which is quite possible, Fran has 10 votes, while Koenig has 6 - turns out sugar > hipsters in the eyes of the LP forums. While I'm at it... Hector: 10 Serasmus: 7 Richter: 6 Alex: 4 Dietrich: 3 Keyser: 2 Musashi: Alvis: 1 Apparently I am bad at reading. I knew CTRL+F could let me down. Somehow, I knew that having Musashi slaughter his way through the next stratum was not going to be an option. Lazy Programming posted:Keyser, Farmbot1, Farmbot4 also I vote the hexer is best buds with Keyser and they go on adventures and... This should be interesting! I should probably mention now that I'll be picking the party for the postgame, not that we're quite there yet, because if I recall correctly, it's less a test of "Do you have a good party?" and more a test of "Do you have a party designed to handle all the bullshit down here?"
