Dont forget that the state and local governments loving love handing out property tax abatements as part of "business incentives" which keeps shifting the tax burden to home owners.

Dallas is still in the list of 20 as well, I wonder if they're seriously considering taking over Valley View or if they'd just go somewhere in Plano like everyone else.

If amazon actually cares about public transit there’s no way they’re going to pick Austin because our public transit system is so garbage.

Dallas rail is OK (at least compared to Austin), but it's terrible for getting to valley view, and there's no way we're going to get a rail line there since property along the DNT is outrageously expensive. I read some articles saying that Amazon picked 20 cities to make the remaining number too large for the cities to easily make an agreement where none of them would offer Amazon incentives. I doubt they're coming to Texas, we're just in here to drive up the incentives package they get from wherever they want to go because we're so "business friendly."

I still strongly suspect East Coast. Funny that there are three short-listed locations in the immediate DC metro: "Northern Virginia", Montgomery County, and DC itself. If they are aiming for DC metro and their goal is to get tax concessions playing those three regions off each other is a smart move.

Yes, it's the mean ol' cities shaking down Amazon in this process. Amazon certainly didn't get promises from 350 cities that they would tear down all the poor parts of town to build a golden highway to Bezos' 8th summer home.

Badger of Basra posted:She's in a similar vein to Leslie Pool and Kathie Tovo in that she thinks the only people who matter in Austin are homeowners and everyone else can get hosed. All three of them talk a big game about affordable housing but they don't put up much money for it, and at the same time they make it harder to build anything besides single family homes. I read the Statesman article about her, and yeeeesh. I didn't vote for Adler in either the general or the run-off, but at least his policies aren't DIRECTLY against my interests.

I'm endorsing the SA goon candidate running in statehouse district 63:quote:Richard Wolf of Flower Mound is a 23-year-old college dropout who lives at home with his parents and says he's never held a job for more than a few months and "never paid taxes." Nevertheless, he's quick to outline which taxes (paid by others) he'd increase to pay for his favorite programs. We suspect residents in this district would prefer somebody with a bit of life experience who can complete a questionnaire without resorting to profanities or boasts that he "will be the best legislator of all time."

Speaking of Denton County, I don't know why the Denton Record Chronicle seems to entertain these Amazon HQ fantasies. Yeah, sure. Well anyways if it does happen (haha it's not going to happen) I can only imagine it like a scene from Independence Day (1996) where the Bezos machine hovers over the courthouse on the square and blows it up with a giant laser.
