Is it just me or is the entire griftosphere reaching some kind of singularity? Musk, NFTs, Trump and others all seem to be converging on a single point of increasing desperation to grab the last few dollars before they go down the drain.

I'm starting to see momentum from the traditional finance folks saying crypto should never be regulated, because that would mean crypto could touch traditional finance and through that touch the real economy. Their argument is that if you keep crypto unregulated, you will also keep crypto separated from the actual economy, which will protect the real economy from regular crypto meltdowns.

Hmm should the "authorities" give crypto legitimacy, by allowing scammers to say they are registered regulated and insured exchange?

They have a point. But on the other hand the KYC is already regulation.

Also is Sam dead yet?

Makes sense: Keeping it unregulated keeps it unofficial and keep it, effectively, defacto somewhat criminal.

Ban crypto mining and make it so that only accredited investors can speculate on crypto. Then you get regulation and no broader integration of crypto into the actual market. Everyone wins.

Yeah ideally you regulate in a way that basically makes it impossible to comply and strangle it, but I'm sympathetic to the idea that since that probably won't happen it's better to not regulate it at all

I've been saying for a long time when people ask if crypto crashing could take down the economy in general that it wasn't really a problem because crypto doesn't have a real interface into the actual economy. I can definitely see making the argument that giving crypto even a veneer of acceptability by regulating it is a bad idea.

Yeah, plus regulations imply a degree of government consent and responsibility for it which I’m sure they want no part of.

Guessing they want capacity available for legitimate business.

If your spot prices are high because crypto people are bidding up compute time, that's good for short term profit, but bad after crypto crashes if all the normal users switched to amazon/google in the meantime

Crypto customers are bad for hosting providers for a few reasons. You can't make a profit mining at full retail price so people use various shady tactics like abusing promotional credits, wrecking any over provisioned shared hosting, putting miners on their employers servers to soak up idle power, etc etc.

Its really bad for business because they're lovely customers who don't have business prospects or growth potential, but they can majorly piss off your normal customers by being noisy neighbors.
