for the ff12 remaster they brought back sakimoto and had him compose some new songs and re-record all the old one's with a full orchestra. It's the main reason i'm going to get the remaster.

I thought XII had some cool songs. I especially loved "To the Place of the Gods".

Far as I'm concerned, if I were to rank the soundtracks, while I would probably put XII towards the bottom, there's no doubt in my mind that X-2 is the absolute worst. X-2's OST has some truly amazing songs but then it also has a lot of really generic and awful songs.

The couple of tracks I've heard so far have been a mixed bag. I'm not a huge fan of the boss battle theme redo:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CTnqYZIGiA
compared to the original https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tojdtfyKWP4

I dunno what it is, but it just doesn't seem right, and the best part of the song (~55 seconds in) doesn't seem as epic.

OTOH, the Ozmone Plains remaster is incredible and really makes me wish they'd give the Tactics soundtrack a similar treatment, as that song is pretty reminiscent of some of the FFT tracks.
original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjP6z0YOlSA

the Rabanastre theme is pretty much exactly the same in both instances.

while we're at it, the World of FF soundtrack has some pretty snazzy arrangements:

And while I know nothing about the Dissidia fighting game some of the arrangements are very Black Mages-esque which I kind of dig (also FFT tracks which is always a nice surprise):

Although my favorite from that soundtrack really can't not be how it handled Clash on the Big Bridge. This one might've been Record Keeper's work originally, but it doesn't matter, it's still absolutely amazing.

Just going by official and from my own memory, there is... V, XII, XIII-2, XIII-3, XIV, Dissidia PSP and Dissidia AC, FF1 PSP, WoFF. So that's nine, ten if you count the Black Mages, and I probably missed some. So yes, you totally can do a top ten Big Bridges.

I think part of the appeal is that it's been a lot of genres over time, but in every single one is still really big and bombastic. So if it ever could be in a style that's appealed to you, it's given it an honest goddamn shot.

:yeah:

The compositions in 12 doesn't usually have a clear and distinct main melody, although it uses leitmotifs a lot, but focuses more on the feel of the track. Uematsu was really good at having clear melodies in most of his tracks which made them catchier and easier to remember as opposed to 12s different approach. I think that's why a lot of people don't like the ost for 12 maybe.

Just gotta keep walking down that road.
XII's soundtrack is totally fine, it's not as memorable as most in the series but it's nowhere near bad.

FF12 has what was (and might still be, though that Okabe version is pretty great) my favorite Battle on the Big Bridge and also some really great leitmotifs. The final boss theme is great precisely because of the way it uses those leitmotifs.

The issue is that the normal backing tracks work well at being atmospheric but aren't terribly memorable.

Hard to get much context on how difficult that is without seeing and/or trying out the controller.

If it's something like a guitar hero set up, it's probably easier than it looks

The control setup: Yellow and green tilt gestures are done on the orbs, so you're effectively shifting between two sets of controllers for something like that Seymour Battle arrangement previously linked.

Example video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t97bppx0wT4

The most difficult ones are the ones that are constantly mixing tilts and button presses, like this track from Secret of Mana: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KefG6HoJHQE

Or Apocalypse Noctis, where your nice smooth rhythm gets interrupted with quarter note presses at random: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CT-uz_CXQsQ

There is apparently a song with lyrics that is in FF12 but I don't remember it at all, and honestly think the person who put together the Distant Worlds compilation is just pulling my leg.

FFX has the best soundtrack if only because the main Leitmotif is used loving constantly so you never, ever, ever forget it.

12 had probably my favorite post-game content. Some people might get bored but I had tons of fun setting up gambits and letting fly on the high-level hunts. The only really lovely thing was grinding for some of the weapons, but for most of them there's either an alternate way to get it, or it's just plain unnecessary.

The Zodiac Spear was really the one people were pissed about, because it's by a fair margin the most powerful weapon in the game (although I guess the Katana or whatever that combos a million times does more damage overall), and the 2 ways to get it were either a) don't open 19 specific chests throughout the game (but the game never tells you which or gives you any clue whatsoever), and then do a panicked suicide-run through a late-game area where everything will practically 1-shot you to a chest deep inside then run back out, or b) a chest in a post-game area that has a 1/1000 chance of containing the spear, and requires a save reload to respawn it.

It's the song during the ending. It's the only new Uematsu composition for the game. No one remembers how it goes.
