I imagine Stephen Harper can't do much worse than Chrystia Freeland. There was a thing a few days ago about how there hadn't been any active nafta negotiations in weeks. Come on fifty cent CAD.

To be honest I always got the impression from Harper that he really would have LIKED to be a dictator but was too Canadian to actually do it. He probably sees a kindred spirit in Trump.

Trumpist collaborators are traitors and must be treated as such. I didn't think Stephen Harper was that big a gently caress, but evidently he is and I have no problem with treating him as such.

I see a banner sign about electing judges while driving into Calgary from Lethbridge that's been there for a while but the website on it is broken.

There's also an "ELECT JUDGES" sign coming into the Lower Mainalnd from the Coquihalla too. I believe its website is broken too

Look, I'm glad that you're not full-Alberta-Retard all the time (just don't mention David Suzuki around you), but how can you possibly not understand that, yes, this is exactly who Harper is, and who he always was.

He was never making a particular effort to pretend to be anything else, here, and there's a reason my mom and I would while away the days in Calgary making jokes about him eating that kitten after the photo was taken.

Yeah its just after Abbotsford when you are heading west. Something about broken justice and elected judges are the answer. There is a chain on it if I recall.

oh hell yeah :awesome:

quote:

B.C. Attorney General David Eby plans to have his ministry procure a second report on money laundering that will follow-up the bombshell study that it released yesterday.

While the first report, Dirty Money, focused on how money is laundered in the province’s casinos, the second report will focus on the real estate industry, Eby told Business in Vancouver in a phone interview on June 28.

Former RCMP deputy commissioner Peter German, who wrote the 247-page first report, may be contracted to write the second report but that is not yet confirmed, Eby said. No timeline for the second report has yet been set.

“One of the troubling pieces to me is that the people who were walking the cash into the casinos, and had some sort of a connection to organized crime, often listed their occupation as being real-estate related,” Eby said. “If this is the money they’re gambling with, what is the money that they are using in the real estate industry, and where did it come from?”

Eby said that his ministry is working out details for the second report with Finance Minister Carole James, who is the party’s point person on matters related to real estate.

For real, what makes our Supreme Court so different from how politicized the US one is (aside from when Harper tried to appoint Nadon)? Is it just that we don't really pay attention, or we don't mythologize what a bunch of assholes said in the 18th century? Does regional representation or a mandatory retirement age alleviate a lot of the issues?

The notwithstanding clause means that the court has less power, Canadian justices are just generally more respectful of parliament than the U.S. supreme courts and our parliamentary system is much more capable of actually passing legislation, so there's less need for the Court to take up issues. Also, Canadian politics are less angry than the states in general.

I would be shocked if anything blew back meaningfully on the bclibs involved in all this. Fully expecting the old “yikes there were sure a lot of things missed such as a dozen hockey bags full of twenties rolled into the bclc operations!” shock and outrage with no repercussions for anyone (apart from political points scored).

It’s always bugged me that the government is in the casinos game. They simply cannot police themselves due to government laziness and/or stupidity.

If some bclib scum takes the fall that would be good stuff, though.

Doug Ford just announced his cabinet. Of the 20 ministers, 7 are women and exactly one is a racialized person, Raymond Cho.

Also Environment and Climate Change is now Environment, Conservation and Parks, and the minister responsible for northern development is also now responsible for indigenous relations because why not.

It's kind of awesome because our riding has been battling forever to get funds from the province to extend the 417 out of Ottawa. In 8 years, we've got it from one side of Arnprior to the other. Hopefully with him as transport, we'll push it right to North Bay.
