Like a fist wrapped in blood...
The DVD transfer of Grosse Pointe Blank is pretty poor so if they are finally doing a good Bluray version, count me in.

EDIT: What? Both Sister Act movies on one Bluray? The cinematography will have no way to breathe if they compress it that much.

The sad part is, he wasn't always evil.
When I think "popular and iconic", I think of Bringing Down The House, Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion, Lady and the Tramp 2: Scamp's Adventure, Hocus Pocus and Son of Flubber.

edit: And Bringing Down The House is *so* iconic they're celebrating its 10th birthday a year early, unlike almost every other Anniversary Edition on the list which are a year late.

Serious post, read his autobiography about his standup career. It's a great book and he still has it but, near the end, you can tell that life's circumstances just beat the hell out him.

He's content to get his check and buy some art.

Kino is releasing D.W. Griffith's Intolerance and Douglas Fairbanks' The Thief of Bagdad before the end of the year. Both are from new 2K restorations with orchestral scores by Carl Davis. The Thief of Bagdad will also have the Mont Alto Orchestra score from the Kino DVD and a commentary by Jeffrey Vance. Intolerance will have Griffith's short re-edits The Mother and the Law, as well as The Fall of Babylon.

July 17th:
High Noon
Invasion of the Body Snatchers

Both are HD remasters off the camera negatives, but they were only able to get the making-of and trailer for High Noon. Invasion will be bare-bones.

Not Olive Films' fault, as they only have access to existing materials owned by Paramount.

Also, Blu-Ray.com reports that the new restoration of Lawrence of Arabia is premiering at Cannes.

...and Yellow Submarine is delayed until June 5th to make way for a limited theatrical re-release.

Very cool--I love Cinerama. If you have a pretty big TV, like 50"+, the Smilebox versions look great.

If you ever have the chance to see a cinerama film in its original 3 projector presentation, do it immediately! Seattle Cinerama shows How The West Was Won and This Is Cinerama from time to time and it's just glorious.

Kino announced more films as part of their Redemption (mostly gory shlock) line. However, among the titles are Mario Bava's Black Sunday (aka Mask of the Demon).

Not Blu, but there's a Warner Archive release of King Vidor's Show People coming soon. They just released the rest of their extant Lon Chaney films, so it's not exactly looking good to see any silents from Warner on Blu-Ray unless they change their licensing policy.

I wonder if they'll be able to have both English dub and Italian, as the Anchor Bay release only had the english dub. I wonder if they'll be able to get the Les Baxter score as well.
