Must not have been retroactive. Oh well.
You missed the shitshow Cryptic started when they made the change. Because when it was first announced, they did announce that it was retroactive, and that anyone who had ever bought one in the past from the store would now have access to as many as they wanted. And then it launched, and that didn't happen. Players complained, and Cryptic said it was a bug and they'd fix it. And players kept complaining, and cryptic kept saying they were working on it.

The problem evidently was that originally, as Taerkar pointed out, a few boffs (caitians/ferasan/aenar that I know of) cost zen but when bought they didn't give you a boff. They gave you a little token in your inventory. That token could be spent at the NPC boff vendor to buy your boff... or it could be traded to other players or sold on the exchange. So cryptic couldn't just look at all the players with one of those boffs commissioned to determine who to give the unlock too, since some of those players might have bought them off the exchange instead of the z-store.

I think finally the upshot was that cryptic only had access to data on who'd paid for a zen boff going back a year or so, and anyone who'd bought one before that was out of luck. As far as I know, they didn't officially announce this anywhere, I think someone finally got cryptic support to admit it in a ticket or something.

The upshot is now you can spend 600z and get a whole crew of cat boffs, and some redditors are still salty about not getting their account-unlocks.

Right next to them you'll see a 'Requisitions' NPC with a weird gizmo next to the EC symbol over their head, you can sell junk to them, as well as buy basic white gear from.

Thank you, finally sold my junk! It looks like maybe this upgrade I have can only be used at level 50

Also for selling you can recycle stuff with the replicator button. No idea if it's more efficient to sell to an npc, but always having the ability to sweep out your inventory is nice.

At one point early on it was slightly more efficient to sell to NPCs rather than the replicator since they have like 60% of purchase value rather than 50 (except ferengi NPCs who did 50 too because of course), but that's both absolutely not worth the effort to worry about and may have changed a decade ago and I never noticed.

Re-Engineering is for changing the modifiers on the more rare items. For the most part as you're playing and leveling up, it's entirely ignorable, and really only used if you want to do mondo DPS builds that require very specific modifiers for your gear.

Is the upgrade token you're talking about labelled as T6-X? You'll want to stick that into the bank and wait to use it on a Tier 6 ship you really like and could see using across characters. If it's a 'Starship Upgrade' token, that will upgrade a Tier 5 ship (You get a small choice of one of those late in leveling, and there are several more available on the exchange for less ludicrous prices) to 'T5-U' which is on par with a Tier 6 ship.

Tier 6 ships come from the C-Store, Lockboxes, or events. Like the Risian Summer event coming up on July 1st. You can also buy 'Fleet' Tier 6 ships, but that's a long ways off. The advantage of Tier 6 ships is that they unlock a 'Starship Trait' that you can use with any ship, and they level with your character, while Fleet T6 doesn't do that.

The official wiki also has lots of useful information.

From the feedback people are giving so far, it's okay but nothing amazing. It doesn't award a costume unlock either, which special ground sets often normally do.

I grabbed it just because my Klingon toon is an engineer who spams drones, so this was a great set to poo poo out even more combat pets.

Uh, I hope you don't mean you're doing the current "Only Qo'noS Endures" special event just for progress in the event campaign that awards you the premium T6 ship, T6 coupons or 1500 lobi, because this event doesn't count for that purpose.

But if you were, Cryptic already found a way to gently caress you over.

(Seriously though, it's great that they have these event campaigns and half of the events contribute nothing toward it. Because gently caress you, that's why.)

The T6 Oberth will be the Grissom, it will be a 'light science vessel', which means it's a science vessel with less hull but more agility. Temporal spec. Another new ship coming: T6 Malachowski called the Clarke class, which is light, more agile flight-deck cruiser. Is command spec. Basically it's one of the old command battlecrusiers. Can kitbash with Miranda, so I might actually get it. Also, gamma recruit rerun soon and temporal later this year.

I think I'm getting a lot better at the ground portion of this game. My current strategy is to set up turrets a distance away from the next group of enemies, then I tell my engineer officer to go ahead a distance closer and lay out some landmines then come back to the main group, then I run out and bait the next group back to the turrets (or I could tell the tactical officer to do that), then I pause and identify which of the enemies is the toughest and shielded, and engage in melee combat that goes through their shields. I've stopped using the abilities that have effects that are too flashy and distracting, including Plasma Grenade, Overwatch, Shield Generator, and Medical Generator, in favor of the doctor abilities that repair health and the engineer abilities that directly repair personal shields. IMO they really should tone down the effects on the generators, all I need is an outline of the ring, maybe even only when I click the turret. I also realized that melee abilities are probably useless on the tactical boffs

I give everybody the gravity well grenade. Then I cast lightning bolt.

Gamma recruit is next week, and it's not just new added objectives, some of the existing gamma objectives got made slightly easier.

The two ships are also coming next week, are regular z-store ships, and also available in a bundle with some WoK inspired stuff. No more details on the bundle's pricing or other contents yet.

One of the ships has a genesis device console, which is going to make people who love big obnoxious science spam really happy. The Oberth has a ship trait that triggers every time you launch an anomaly, and when you do every existing anomaly gets 2 seconds added to it's duration (maxing at double the normal duration). I'll have to do some tinkering, but this might actually be another good, usable science trait. The console for one of the ships (the Oberth, I think) slowly drains aux power, and the longer it drains the more bonus damage torps do, up to a max of 400% bonus damage. The designer said that it was possible to hit that max, but difficult. Given how good most of cryptic is at building ships, I think there's a decent chance that all the high-end kinetic torp builds will quickly find a way to do that.

They confirmed that the summer ship is a T6 Risian luxury cruiser, and although they didn't show it they did say that it would have the different environment options in the tailor like the T5.

Temporal will be later this year, they're still re-working all the TOS missions.

Just want to tag on that we will probably also be getting the end of the early-level Federation storyline back in the game sooner rather than later. Apparently the fact that the Guardian of Forever appeared in S3 of DSC has meant that those old missions that were removed for reworking/remastering have now been bumped a lot higher up the priority list.

Yeah, I actually had the game running while I was reading this thread and it suddenly ate poo poo and I can't even get back to the login screen now.

I'm kinda torn on the Oberth. I have a T1 Oberth kitted out with as close as I could get to the clay pigeon build posted on Reddit a while back (with the medical vanity shield turning the bottom hull yellow so it looks like a giant banana no less), but half the fun of running that goofy little dude in the space battlezones is that it is a T1...

Floob, you're not the only one on the struggle bus. I was hunting for the Boff vendor yesterday myself. I've been doing a lot of googling. Also, you can sell stuff straight from your inventory if you hit the replicator button in the bottom right and then go to the recycle tab at the top of the replicator screen. Not sure if you get less EC than if you went to an actual vendor or not. Edit: Beaten soundly, didn't see there were 10 replies after this....

I anticipate I'll hit 65 by this weekend. When I do, I want to drop some cash money on a new boat. I'm a tac officer and playing in a patrol escort which has a mix of dual heavy cannons, phaser arrays, torp launcher and a turret. I'm going to try and go all heavy cannons with a torp launcher and turrets when I get my final boat. Which should be the boat I go after?

Well the Kurak/Arbiter/Mogai, while cruisers, are battle cruisers and can mount dhcs and come with the single best trait in the game for energy weapons. However if you want a fun actual escort that comes with a decent trait, the Thozyn/Vandros/Xechas ie allied tactical pilot escorts are a ton of fun to fly and Promise of Ferocity is decent to have. Pilot maneuvers letting you double tap a movement key and you get a massive burst of movement in that direction.

Settings -> Advanced -> Limit CPU usage when inactive. Defaults to on, and drops the framerate to 5fps when another window is active. Turn it off, and it keeps going at the normal rate when it's inactive.

I think Windows also does some (smaller) limits on inactive windows, but that's probably going to depend heavily on how starved for resources your computer is.
