I admit, a lot of the critiques can be true and a lot of Brutalism can look bad, but the example he gave of what Brutalist architecture he liked seemed... So much bleaker than a lot of the other ones he disliked (the plain, flat concrete slab separating the flats was just... Grim looking to me). The one thing I remember about BotL was one time when I made a snide remark that they DIDN'T respond to, which caught me so off-guard, I wondered if they actually were stung by it.

I think the video is being incredibly fair, especially since it calls out both its role in revolutionizing housing and the works of Lou Kahn as positives. But it's not unfair to identify its aesthetics and impact as being almost the exact opposite of what its original ideological foundations were meant to evoke. As a response to "why doesn't this youtuber make videos about current events instead of wasting time on architecture that hasn't been relevant in decades?" I could've just posted the Ziggurat of Ur video to be glib, but I decided to post a number of other architecture videos to illustrate where OSP Blue is coming from and what he finds aesthetically pleasing and historically interesting.

Blue is rather notorious for being about history but often his videos and takes being deep in pop history.

I'm watching the Super Eyepatch Wolf video about fake videogames and the only other thing of his I've watched is the one about Fear and Hunger... is having a five minute existential crisis because he feels old a normal event in these? I've seen people talk about his histrionics, this just felt like it was crowbarred in, like something he had to do for an advertiser or something. The stuff he's covering is interesting and I liked his delivery aside from that.

"Super Eyepatch Wolf has an existential breakdown mid-video" does seem to be a recurring gimmick, yeah. In his Garfield creepypasta video he spends... oh, probably a good five or six minutes melting down because his mom found a picture of him wearing a Garfield shirt as a kid despite his very emphatic denials that he was ever a Garfield fan before the video. It's a weird tangent and honestly felt uncomfortable. The rest of the video is fine, it's an interesting look at an internet subculture hell-bent on crafting surreal horror from the banal, but I can't watch it again because we hit that stretch and I can't help feeling like I'm watching a guy try and talk himself into some kind of mental illness. Because of a picture of him as a six-year-old wearing a Garfield t-shirt.
