I dunno, I just remember them doing a huge celebratory pile-on after they won, and thinking to myself I'd seen 11 Japanese women rolling around on the floor in a different video that same week.

No playing time, really. He's back in Japan, playing for Gamba Osaka.

SUPER SAMURAI UPDATE!

Yesterday Japan beat Cyprus 1-0 in a warm-up match. Sexy Uchida scored the goal. Zacceroni put them out in 4-4-2, with midget Nagatomo playing centre back...?! I didn't actually see the game, but by all reports Japan should have scored three or four. Now the team is off to America for some final training and cheeseburgers, which probably looks like this:

Their next friendly is against Costa Rica on June 2nd.

Also, the women's team became champions of asia or something, but who cares.

I saw the game, it was one of two halves. The first was boring but SUPER SAMURAI turned it around in the second and bossed possession. Still, only 1-0 was kind of underwhelming considering the crap opponent.

SUPER SAMURAI UPDATE

Japan beat fellow world-cup goers Costa Rica 3-1 in a friendly today.

Highlights here.

(if you can make them out that is, Japan's away kit has some serious issues re: visibility)

Japan basically dominated possession and scored three very neat goals. Bingin' Shinji's in particular was nice. On the other hand, all three were scored by their midfielders, and watch Costa Rica's goal. That is some seriously shoddy marking, positioning and commitment to either. The centre backs are just dawdling about. Worrying.

So what we know is what I wrote in the OP. Bad strikers, bad defenders.

This was another highly informative

he's right on about the tactics but he's an enormous Osaka honk and I just don't trust those people :colbert:

and after today's game, whoever it was that subbed in at center forward (Okazaki?) needs to stay there because the linking between him and the attacking midfielders was much, much better with him.

oh and Havenaar was/is the Japanese Peter Crouch but not even that good. Only gets a look because he's over 6'4/195 cm.

While we had a decent first half (ended up winning 0-1), by second half our stamina fell faster than Liverpool's lead. By the 60th minute, everyone in the field looked exhausted and totally wore down. We definitely lacked match fitness, and Japan was a really hard test (Japan's midfield is scary, gotta admit that).

I'm not worried about the result, since CR had quite a few clear options for scoring (which, again, showed the lack of fitness of our strikers by displaying horrid finishing techniques lol). For us, it was a pretty good, hard test to show us what needs to be worked on.

Oh, and no one ended up injured :woop:
