There are too many characters on this show and I only care about 5 of them. And that's being generous. I'm pretty sure Tara is dead but she'll be back since Lala sees dead people.

Game of Thrones even go one step further and casts porn stars for several background roles. So something tells me that there was more to it than just kissing a dude. Not that he doesn't come off as an unprofessional tight-rear end if that really was his reason for leaving.

Wow, two pages in already and nobody has used the term "campy" yet. Good work I guess. It's a loving tv show on it's last legs, get over it already. It was a good run and it is being run into the ground, it isn't like we all aren't going to keep watching til the end. But hey, keep complaining.

It just ended really badly. Like, isn't this like the third or forth time Sookie has reminded everyone in Bon Temps that she can read their thoughts? Should've gone out with OMG ERIC IS STILL ALIVE AND SEXY

I mean, we sat through 6 seasons of True Blood. The show was based on a book by this woman: It features guys with their shirts off, softcore erotica, vampires and fairies. We know exactly what to expect from the show. What we don't expect is to be completely unengaged by everything onscreen. Maybe it'll get better... Mainly I'm just wondering why there wasn't even a live thread. I don't remember people swearing off the show en masse last season, and there was live-posting then. And I know the forums didn't go down Sunday night.

Can the show just turn into the Alcide and Eric show, with them being potentially mostly naked all the time? It'd be better written than this is.

I always find myself rooting for the humans who want to kill all vampires. Like, the hep V vampires aren't doing anything regular vamps haven't done before.

Did they say in an interview with the writers or someone that she's definitely dead for real reals? The offscreen death and no one actually saw her die and it could be the goop puddle of the vampire she was fighting was what everyone assumed was her all make it seem likely she's going to turn up in an episode or two. I'd prefer if she was dead because the post season 2 quest for Eggs soured me on the character and actress forever. And I thought the last season was a step up in a lot of ways. It had the wacky governor, his decapitation, oh poo poo i just murdered 5 teenagers, the psycho blond chick, a good kill all vampires idea. It beat the poo poo out of vampire illuminati sitting around plotting for peace. That was only saved by Russel because it makes my dick hard Edgington.

Goofballs posted:Did they say in an interview with the writers or someone that she's definitely dead for real reals? Yes, both the actress who plays Tara and Alan Ball have confirmed it. That puddle of goo was Tara. They thought it was an awesome and shocking twist to start the season. It looks like she's winning the fight but then nope, she's dead. Which I guess isn't overly surprising since she's only been a vampire for like, 5 minutes. The actress who plays her did hint that "dead doesn't mean gone on True Blood" which I take to mean we'll get ghost Tara at some point.

Biggest problem to me about that episode was that they didn't even seem to be trying, yeah yeah the show is terrible in almost everything but they would at least try different poo poo and it made it funnier (at least to me), this episode was so blatantly "we aren't going to even try to do anything just have characters running around for no reason whatsoever".

Midnight City posted:"we aren't going to even try to do anything just have characters running around for no reason whatsoever". Maybe I'm making this up, but I seem to recall reading somewhere that they were going to bring everything back to Bon Temp so it wouldn't be 20 different people in 20 different places doing 20 different things. They'd have everyone together in the same place with the same plot. I hope this actually happens, it would make the show much more enjoyable. I think they'd have to kill off half the cast though because there are way too many characters at this point.

True Blood has always been silly and dumb, but their big plan to deal with the big feral vampire menace begins with a big ice cream social. Outside. At night. I'm not trying to go all "tactical realism" on a vampire show, but it's one of those scenarios that is just transparently contrived to create "action" and "suspense" when they are totally unexpectedly attacked.

I don't think Tara is coming back. The fact that it happened off-screen would lend us to believe that some shenanigans happened and she did survive, but the fact that the actress didn't appear at all during the episode except in footage from last year tells me she's not coming back. She was a regular on the show for six years and then they drop her off completely? To me that smells like either budget cuts or some behind the scene drama we haven't heard about. If she had survived, we would have had a minute or two with Tara and then an actual fade to black right before she supposedly died. Or she would have died on screen. Also, the actress gave an interview and she talked about the death of her character and how the fact that Tara is gone is going to be the main gamechanger this season. I mean it's possible that she'll be revived or she wasn't killed, and I definitely think that if she is dead we'll get a ghost cameo (or montage of happier sookie and tara times*) before or during the finale. *though it very well might be young sookie and young tara, and the actual actress won't show up at all this season

The whole thing made even less sense than the show normally does though, and I liked the vampire illuminati. I really wish the show had been more of that sort of stuff from the start, instead of just throwing an ever greater variety of supernatural creatures at a wall and seeing what stuck. A show about a world where vampires (and just vampires) are real and have just revealed their existence focusing on how people deal with that and what happens when a vampire is caught killing a human (or vice versa) would be excellent, and until Christopher Meloni's character died it looked like they might actually be doing some of that. But yeah, last season was just a mess. Absolutely everything fell apart if you thought about it for more than a second.

I feel like the guy from Soylent Green. The episode makes it so obvious that she isn't dead: Major character, dies offscreen IN THE COLD OPEN, the only witness is insane, and we see her maker pottering around Morocco without a care in the world. Then apparently she IS dead? What the hell?

I kind of miss the Dexter thread, that show got so outlandishly poo poo but goons always made the unbearably tedious and dumb funny. True Blood set out to be dumb but its gloriously fun dumb. I hope the final scene is sookie as a lumberjack finally getting away from all the vampire wackiness.

If Tara was seriously killed off in that manner, well, it's pretty lovely. Tara had some good moments: Bashing in Franklin's brains. Flirting with Franklin. Being a vampire. But her worst moments: Eggs. Eggs. Eggs. He was an okay guy but loving hell she ignored common sense. I can still hope for a Eric, Alcide & Jason sandwich before the end of the series.
