UAB produced Roddy White and that's pretty much all I know about them. Michigan State opened the season against them in 2007 and I think the crowd was far more excited seeing the Michigan-App State score than they were by anything on the field.

The Governor is a UA grad (Undergrad and Med School) and his personal residence and medical office is in Tuscaloosa. More than likely he does what every republican governor does. Looks into it, says its promising, but loosing tons of money that could be better spent elsewhere or focusing on education or some bullshit like that. Closes it. UAB is done. They just haven't buried it yet.

It also came out that the football program actually makes money today though. So uh, there's really no legitimate argument. I guess you COULD say it's expensive on the argument that Legion Field needs to be replaced as soon as possible and that would maybe double the athletics budget for a year or two. Tons of people have said they'd pony up some money though.

As to the stadium, there's no way in hell that a program on the brink of death is going to get an on campus stadium, especially when the plan a few years ago was bulletproof and had all of the luxury boxes already sold for a 3 (or 5, I can't remember) year commitment. There's literally no incentive to buy them a stadium on the BoT considering how Tuscaloosa centric it is.

Actually they were just talking on the radio on how the football program (not UAB athletics) made a few hundred grand more than it cost this year (like 10 mil to 9.5 mil). Athletics as a whole are subsidized, but those are the programs they're talking about KEEPING.

Aren't they the cupcake UT has scheduled as an opener at LP field next year? What's UT going to do? Who does UT get to replace them? That sounds good for the football program. I'd love to see UAB get a small but quality/nice on-campus stadium. Legion field needs to be condemned.
